I'd drive the car but wouldn't pay the stupid money she'll bring.

Cobra prices on BaT have really tanked over the last month or two. Been seeing a downward trend through the summer. Lots of RNM auctions as of late.

That is how they are, they got as close as they could to the cobra lines without compromising chassis and suspension design.

So apparently JBL hasn't built any of these in years? There is still a JBL website though. I wonder if you would get any support from the company.

I guess most of the mechanical stuff is off the shelf Ford parts, Wilwood, etc.

I suppose if you loose one of the Compomotive spinners off a wheel, you are out of luck.

It seems the seller bought it in December, had body work and repaint in June and is now selling it in September after only driving it 225 miles?

The paint and body work were over 10K.

Maybe the seller just wanted a toy to drive for the summer?

It is definitely weird looking, but better looking than the AC MkV from Malta that didn't sell on BaT recently.

And it did not meet reserve.

Well it is NOT a "competition model". It is a "touring model", so it is not the version that made JBL famous.

And who as an original owner, orders a car without a parking brake handle? And how do subsequent owners over 16 years find it not necessary to install the parking brake handle? And why doesn't the car come with wheel chocks in the trunk so it doesn't roll away? And how did this car ever pass a safety inspection without a parking brake handle? Well you have to have your priorities straight, right? New $12k paint job or install parking brake handle? Hmm, paint job seems to be the priority here.

Also some bidders in a location like me might think it is cold, wet and raining outside today in Pennsylvania, why would I want to buy an open car today? Maybe I should wait until Spring instead.

It is strange, there was some goof ball on BaT using the same id as my CC id and actually bid on that odd looking JBL. I have no idea what he was thinking.

At first, I thought it WAS you bidding (1ntCobra), then read his posting, couldn't be you with his LACK of knowledge Yeah, 46K (RNM) I guess couple of reasons. Market a tad soft, not to everyone liking, wheelbase, and or fender's, no Monster BBF. I personally love the rear fenders of a Cobra (427) just like a Porsche 930 turbo, they look "Just Right" Cheers Tom.

Well, would I admit to being that goofball who has never won a BaT auction?

It is a bit of a strange looking car, but kind of neat anyway.

I did find a couple of somewhat recent JBL auctions though:

$37,400 on 6/24/20 : https://www.purplewave.com/auction/2...Vehicle-Kansas

$51,700 on 10/30/19: https://www.purplewave.com/auction/1...Vehicle-Kansas

Keep in mind both of the above are the apparently more desirable Competition models with the advanced suspension that JBL is known for.

The BaT auction was for a Touring model that does not have the advanced suspension. So one might think a Touring model will go cheaper than a Competition model.

So was $46K unreasonable?

Well for the seller, it probably depends on what he paid for the car less than a year ago, plus a new set of tires and plus the $12K for paint. He probably set the reserve to get his money back.

And then you have the funky looking Lubinsky built in Malta AC MkV that reached the identical $46K reserve not met.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2005-ac-cobra-mkv/

You never know what kind of drunks Lubinsky hired to beat out carbon fiber panels on jetty rocks under a light house near a Malta beach.

So I am not surprised where that auction went, but now I see the seller has listed that Malta built car on Facebook with a $125K asking price. Well that seller probably paid a good chunk of change for it and needs to get some of that back.

Well I think I would take the JBL over the Lubinsky Malta built car any day.

Interesting based on the serial number, Vanguard Motor Sales sold the JBL from BaT a few years ago with 2200 miles on it at the time.
