California wants to ban chrome plating
|
They've been driving them out of business for a long time. Not many of them left in CA.
Also, notice this isn't a new law. It's just some beaurocrats deciding to make a new rule about something they don't like. |
I'm not a green weenie but...
The chemicals and metals in chrome plating are seriously nasty to the environment, people and the equipment involved in the process. Spent years in manufacturing and have seen lots of issues. The management of the hazardous waste has gotten very expensive. Looked at the price of getting anything chromed lately? Jim |
Just think, pretty soon we will have to send our parts to China so we can have them, chrome plated, cadmium plated, or any other plating process! Do you actually believe the Chinese are more EPA friendly than we are here in the United States??? We are putting ourselves back into the Stone Age and promoting our adversaries straight into a dominant industrial power!!!

We gave heavy manufacturing away decades ago. We don't have the steel manufacturing industry to make navy ships during war when the supply is broken off from the enemy and they know it.

Most of the chrome shops in Ohio closed. Only the good ones that invested some money in their operations are still open, and they are not cheap.

PVD process plating has been the go-to for oem and aftermarket for about 15 years now. My 1st set of PVD wheels (black chrome) was in 2010 and the finish was durable and had zero flaking issues after 10 years/250k+ miles of road use.
