This is so strange. It's almost totally a Contemporary, except it can't be with a box frame. This is super odd. I can't wait to see what it turns out to be. Does it have a 90" wheelbase?
|
Hay, if a plastic Cobra and Momo steering wheel are good enough for this real deal S/C, it's good enough for all of the Cobra's built since after the 60s! Cheers, Dennis http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=20034

The 5F07C621662 is what I found in an older advertisement. The owner told me the SW 61100 is on the Shelby ID plate on the firewall as well as the title.
How about the rivets on the hood and hood scoop. Does this indicate any particular manufacturer? |
I keep looking at the pictures, especially the under hood picture with the snake caricature thinking I've seen this car, or pictures of it before :

Still stumped by the front inner structure shown, especially the oval cutout at the front of the strut coming across the oil pan area. Can't say I've ever seen that before, and I've seen a lot of Cobras over the years.

The car has been on the internet. It could have been on eBay with the item number 125389710703 on 6/27/22 but eBay records only go back 90 days. I plan to look at the car tomorrow and will take photos of the undercarriage.

EDIT - I just looked through those photos again. There is nothing at all on this body that is not 100% Contemporary. Door hinges, hood hinges, sidepipe openings, raised boss under the front parking lights, tunnel shape and size, rear bulkhead, and many, many other things. I'd have to guess at this point perhaps a Frankenstein car - a CCX body on unknown chassis. |

Could this be the same car?? I saw this car on E-Bay last year, with a LOT of up-grades, different wheels, new tan carpets, and I think the Snake painting under the hood?? PhotoPost Classifieds - Hurricane Motorsports Cobra NJ Title/Reg - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds

Hi Tom - definitely not a Hurricane. Hurricanes have a distinctively lower (more "correct") side profile, correct angled radiator, exposed roll bar legs and a "battery ledge" behind the seats. Additionally, I don't think their optional IRS was a Jaguar based unit.
|
I think both E-M and Midstates had a square tube frame option and both E-M and Midstates splashed their bodies from a Contemporary they look alike!
|
You're right about E-M's body - They absolutely did use a Contemporary-based body shape; but they had backward tilted radiators, very prominent cowl hoop in the cockpit area and big, flat, prominent triangulated hood-pin areas at the trailing corners of the engine bay opening.
On closer inspection though, you might be onto something with Midstates. Other than the Jag IRS which I think would be rare (but possible) on a Midstates, there's a lot of similarities. The only differences I can readily see are the trunk floor, front suspension lower arms, rear fender lip and the depth of the inner lip around the engine bay opening. The underside of the hood and hood hinges are identical. So far I think Midstates is the closest but still some differences. |

Interested to see what it is. Mike |
Unique has a rectangle frame but not a torsion bar frame? Maybe a one-off clip-car front-end?
Just throwing darts? |
If it’s a real 427 FE side oiler it’s a bargain.
|
If it’s a real 427 FE SO it’s a deal.
|
I looked back at my collection of Kit Car and Kit car Illustrated dating back to the 80's. MidStates and E-M did offer a lot of frame and suspension options. Square or round tube and rear suspensions with live axle, Jag and Corvette and front suspension with Mustang II and corvette and custom. I did not see a picture of this car with the Jag torsion bar IFS?
