that's not exactly accurate, crumpley. You are correct that both the side- and center oilers had cross-bolted mains for automotive use. The problem is that Ford's industrial division used 427 blocks/engines for industrial applications, and they were not machined for cross-bolts, since they were for lower speed installations like irrigation pump systems in the Midwest and in marine applications. Many side-oiler blocks were drilled as center-oilers. With the scarcity of 427 cores and the high prices, these other cores have found their way into being converted for performance use. Not sure you could tell the difference if it was done correctly. Perhaps someone knowledgeable here would know.
