Default Pace 427 in US?

Good morning everybody.

I am interested in the pace 427 and there isn’t too much information, builds or anything regarding this for in the US? Looking for any bodies experience with them and what they liked?

It is an Australian-manufactured replica that I believe has no sales or distribution network in the States. That doesn’t mean you can’t buy one over there or remotely from over here. You would then need to pay whatever taxes and import duties the regulatory authorities choose to impose over there (and over here), pay to ship it over here, and then you could own it in the States as if you purchased it here — other than the additional regulatory imposed taxation, duty and shipping you will incur.

Are there any other companies doing the monocoque chassis?

Kirkham built an all-billet chassis Cobra for Larry Ellision about a decade ago. At the time, and likely today also, that chassis exhibited the highest torsional rigidity that Kirkham had ever observed in a Cobra roadster.

All the bling, along with the torsional rigidity, comes at a very substantial uptick in cost. However, on the flip side of that coin, you will have a very unique car ...

Herb Adams and his son Matt built a limited number of Cobras in the USA with a monocoque style chassis. I believe the company name was VSE. Not sure if any of their chassis or completed Cobras are still available. Can’t hurt to do an internet search and see what you can find.

nick7405,

I am building a PACE 289FIA, which uses the same semi-monocoque chassis as the PACE 427 (with very minor changes to suit the different body). The design and quality of the chassis is impressive. If you look in the link in my signature for "stage 1", you will see some of the details of the chassis.

Cheers!
Glen

edit: I should mention that I’m in Australia, not US

Nick, Brent (EM-0785) noticed you're in Washington State. I just sent you a PM. I have a Cobra for sale that has the strongest frame every built, (Non-monocoque) takes 6000lbs, to twist 1-degree. You have my contact # in the PM. Cheers Tom.

West Coast Cobra I believe used a semi-monocoque chassis that was quite robust including solid side impact protection in the doors. I don't think they're still in production but there are quite a few of them out there. The issue with them is that they took significant liberties with the size, shape and proportions of the Cobra body so in addition to being substantially bigger and heavier than the more true-to-original replicas, they stand out starkly when compared to other brands.
I was very familiar with the Pace product when they were just getting started and a lot of race car experience and engineering went into that chassis design; plus they also put a lot of thought into the look, shape and stance of the body. All in all - if you don't insist on having a traditional round tube, ladder style chassis, Pace built (builds?) one of the most impressive Cobra replicas on the planet.

I will be able to meet-up with Nick, hopefully soon to see his "New" FFR roadster. Cheers Tom.

Hi Tom - I didn't know (or did I just forget?) that you had a West Coast. I test drove and almost partial-traded an '89 Corvette convertible for one with a 460 and Doug Nash 5 speed in Canada way back in 1993. Negotiations on the value of the 'vette vs. the Cobra killed the deal though. How many Cobras do you have now, lol?
