I have these guards around my pipes and they only get to about 98 degrees. The header reaches 280 plus and the rest of the pipe hits around 220-240.
I can lay my hand or calf on the guard without a burn. Granted I just got the car and only had it out a couple of times, but each time I checked with a heat gun and it was always under 100 degrees.

Where did you get these shields?

I ordered mine when the car was built. If you do a google search on "heat shields for cobra replica", you will find a bunch of them. I put 600 miles on so far and I think the hottest it got was 105 degrees. I would be wary of bright stainless shields after sitting in the sun for a while. They would probably get pretty hot.

Is that degrees Fahrenheit? If so that is one of the coolest running motors I’ve heard of. My headers at idle are in the 400 - 500 degree range. I have undercar exhaust but I’ve measured my mufflers at over 400 degrees after shutting off from a drive.

I have an old Corvette with chambered side exhaust and the GM aluminum guards. They fit fairly close to the pipes and get a little warm but they have a layer of fiberglass glued to the inside that’s about 1/8-3/16” thick for an insulator. I would be surprised if shields do much good without some sort of insulator or a large air space.
