Can someone fix this broken website please?

It's almost like someone wants it to go away. Takes 30 minutes to log in, data base errors, offline altogether, etc.

Uhhh, we tried this on it....

Can't say I've been getting the error messages that you have, nor has anyone complained on a sister site that shares the same server, at least not in the past two or three weeks. Slow, yes, your issues, to that extent, no.

Now, with that said, there are issues with the server, how much time and personal resources Brent is putting into repairing them would be a guess on my part. I do know he has rebuffed offers for the sale, so saying he wants it to go away is a fallacy, again, at least from those who made such offers that are members here.

Objection your honor. Asked and answered.

I'll bet you complain about water leaking down from the apartment above you too :)

It's been better that past couple of weeks. Just intermittent interruptions and the same old error when posting a reply or topic (but the post happens anyway)

If only your car was not painted beige, I'm betting the server would not be causing you all these problems.

I am experiencing the same issues Brent Lykins is experiencing, and I have been for perhaps a year or more, Bill. His experiences are not outliers or one-off exceptions. This website software has slowly and continuously deteriorated to the point where members have difficulty getting on, let alone reading, posting, or replying to existing posts, and that has increasingly become the rule rather than the exception.

If Brent, the owner, does not want to maintain the site, it is certainly his prerogative; after all, he does own the site. That said, by assuming the ownership posture he has, all he is doing is driving membership to other sites like TalkCobra.com, which does not exhibit any of the operational idiosyncrasies that ClubCobra does and has many of the old Club Cobra members already.

A continued lack of attention to basic maintenance issues that this site needs/requires will only accelerate its final demise, which is sad because it doesn't have to be so. Current events are a wake-up call for Brent. I hope he pays attention. The end is probably closer than he thinks.

Hmmm, probably true for all of us.:(

As Bill & I have talked many times, about this issue, nothing has changed.
We (Brent) ME-0785 & myself, finally met up with Brent (Mills) at the 2022 Vintage races, he showed up in his Mk.IV, we asked if there was anything we could do to help with the web site as Brent (EM-0785) had an IT tech on his pay role. We never heard back from him.
Kathy ? I think that's Brent's (Mills) wife name, told us "Tell Brent how much the site means to you guys" We did, I don't know what else to do??
Brent (Mills) we're still willing to help anyway we can, you have both contact info, if not reach out to Brent & myself.

The end is inevitable. Even if you guys were to convince Brent to take it over, soon you'd be in the same situation - that of a never ending money pit. Eventually you'll time out on it too. It's not clear at all which is dying faster - forums or Cobras... The population for both is diminishing at a rapid rate and the overlapping set even faster.

Sorry, but there are only 4 car forums that are currently on line vs a list of about 20 that have been relegated to the boneyard folder from when I started about 20 years ago. Another site failed to renew its domain a couple of weeks ago... Before that it had only a few posts a year at least one per year was from me who wondered who and why the site was still being paid for...

We have no insight into what the ads pay towards site operation. The possibility exists that it might be enough to keep it even. Attempts by other sites that wanted to go to a pure pay (membership) all have failed.

But I still assert that the problems this site has are database corruption and not related to "software past its expiration date" or old servers that are overloaded and that upgrades to either will just be an expense for no fix.

I think a lot of us would be willing to donate $$$ to help fix the website but the real question is... are corrupted files even fixable?

That has already happened, and this sorry website performance is where we are now. That solution is a non-solution. The advertising revenue, not the membership, should support the site.

It would be professional and admirable of Brent to at least post a thread explaining his position, the situation with the site, the potential (estimated) costs to rebuild it, etc. That's a minimal request and not hard to do.

The advertising revenue from companies that have been out of business for some time? That revenue?

At work, this runs pretty darn good

At home, on my phone, or any other place, I get continuous error messages

blykins 10-09-2024 12:50 PM

You can tell Mills hasn't logged-in in forever. What's with all the Craft Racing banners still up????

Does Jamo still moderate?

Alfa02 10-09-2024 03:12 PM

Jamo, is still lurking around, I've sent some spam posts, and they were taken down within a day.
I believe the friends we have made here, most of us that are regular poster have each other's phone# for calls & texting, and Email's to stay in touch, it's the info. & history we would lose, that I feel would be the greatest crime
Cheers Boys.

Don't send money.

An expert with a proper tool set can fix - rebuild - the tables but someone has to watch the database activity traces to figure out what is stalling things and it seems noone knows how to do that. Turn on debug mode and look at the logs

For example the errors when posting a reply should be easily fixable

My observation is the stalls are not connectivity or path related.

But it's been going on for years and nothing changes. Works good then sucks then is totally off the air with magic happening but no explanation of what happened or what was done. Lather rinse repeat. Never fixed just back to barely tolerable. And this is theonly forum it happens. It's not old software or hardware..
