The last time I remember getting into a discussion about bringing dogs along was a few years ago at a rocket launch. The rocket motors put out quite a bit of sound reaching into the ultrasonic range.

For you folks who launched Estes rockets at some point, these rockets are quite a bit bigger.

Roscoe,
I'm running out of computer screen space putting shortcuts to your audios on it.. "stinking badges" is my favorite...
Hey, do you know the Sopranos? I think they live in Jersey also.

casaleenie 01-07-2003 03:34 PM

Real 1,

You don't suppose there were dogs in those rockets??? I wonder if they had ear protection???

casaleenie 01-07-2003 03:35 PM

This thread is like a train wreck- I just have to keep looking at it....

Bill Wells 01-07-2003 03:51 PM

petek...nice rockets red glare and apple pie but what about the stinkin dog and their ears. i didn't see no dogs in the pictures....so, did you ban them, or did they run away...and what do the rockets have to do with the seriousness of this question as it relates to dogs' hearing and snake type cars ? LOL...ok, maybe when carroll figures out how to protect his dog's ears you can pass the word at the rocket club ! hey , ask the k-9 police folks what they put in their dogs ears when at the gun range !!! arf arf..bill.

Carroll DeWeese 01-07-2003 07:25 PM

I never expected to generate so much interest in a thread. It is probably because I have one of those small "toy" type dogs; however, he is really a big dog in a small body. At 4 months old my 7 pound pooch and I have been out running together on snow paths at below freezing without stopping for several miles at a stretch. When we are not playing or running, he is very laid back. I started the thread so that I could drive in my Cobra instead of another car to serious workout locations in the summer and could take the dog along as a training partner. You guys will probably really think that is crasy.

Perhaps if my dog was a big brute and was more macho to fit the macho Cobra image, you would not have reacted so well. So of you guys have been smelling the gas fumes too long.

Sorry about using the term Cobra noise. You are correct. It is not noise but load music instead. I love feeling the sound, but my ears and the ears of creatures around me will get damaged if exposed too loong and constantly to LOUD Cobra music or any other loud sounds.

Speaking of guns, I am a track and field starter. I sometimes shoot over 200 rounds in a single day. I know how to protect myself. I do not know about dogs. Well maybe I do know how to protect some of the 2 legged dogs among us.

Keep the comments coming. I am really enjoying this. If any of you have a solution, it will be much appreciated. If not, your observations will be entertaining.

kobrabob 01-07-2003 08:21 PM

I know what's needed

I think it would be more proper if Carroll DeWeese added an "L" at the end of his last name.

Bob

Carroll DeWeese 01-07-2003 08:43 PM

kobrabob,
Despite what you may think, I do not need to add an "L" at the end of my last name.. My first name starts with an "L". I have enough "L"s already. My middle and preferred name is "Carroll", not my first name. What does "WeeseL" have to do with this thread anyway?

ERA 626 01-07-2003 08:48 PM

can any one say liberal?

petek 01-07-2003 09:18 PM

Just doing my part for thread drift :)

(Oh... the dog was behind the camera man.)

Edley Rondinone 01-07-2003 10:43 PM

Those Estes rockets DID make a loud, sudden "WHOOSH" is it went up into the wild blue yonder. Our launch battery died, and we had to resort to lighting rolled-up firecracker fuses to launch our rockets...sometimes the ignition of the rocket was instantaneous!!! I'm lucky to have all my fingers, and still have good hearing to boot!! Ah, but the eyesight is going, but I'll save THAT for another thread!!!lol!!! Edley

got snake? 01-07-2003 10:57 PM

Petek: "Just doing my part for thread drift."

So ah...It looks like Carroll has stated that the Engine is TBD.....Big block or small block?

petek beat that!!!!

GS;)
