Hey, Ernie, While we are talking about various "ailments": My Cobra was in the body and paint shop at House of Cobras in Anaheim, for a minor accident/fender cruncher that WASNT my fault!!! HOC did a great job repairing my car. Anyway, after the first day of driving the car after 8 weeks in the shop, my left knee was absolutely (assolutely?) killing me from working the clutch; I thought I had torn a ligament! It sucks getting old!! Maybe my 6'4" frame in my 90" wheelbase car has something to do with it, but I would NEVER sell my Cobra, unless to buy another one!! Are you having continual Cobra Withdrawals? When will you be back in the saddle? Edley

Great picture, but inadequate. You sunglasses may protect from the sun, but what about the entire head? That dog probably needs a full racing helmet. I can see him in the movies as "Cobra dog". The movies would probably add a scarf around his neck to flow in the wind. They would make it so long that it would get caught by the rear wheel and choke the dog to death. Scarfs are dangerous.

This thread is about hearing, but a dog racing helmet might help both sound reduction and head protection. A full face helment would protect the eyes. I do not plan to use one for my dog but it is a possible solution to hearing and face protection.

Bill You are right. My bad!! Get the dog a leather flyer's cap like Snoopy wore in the comics...incorporate some extra padding under the cap but over the ears...some eye protection would fasten right to the cap, and VIOLA! I once saw a dog (not MY dog!) with its head stuck in a plastic peanut butter jar...give it some air holes so it wouldnt fog over...hmm, but then more sound would come in....Oh, nevermind!!....OOH, Isnt there some technology that creates "Cancelling" sound? I have a safety harness that attaches to a seat belt and acts as a seat belt. It protects the dog from sudden stops, quick turns, etc. It also protects the driver from the dog suddenly getting in the way. Put the harness on and my dog lies down in the seat. I treat seatbelts as mandatory for anyone, dogs included, riding with me. The reason that I did not ask about keeping a dog in place is because I have a safety harness for the dog. Seatbelts should be mandatory for any ride in a Cobra by any creature.

Another danger of a dog riding in a Cobra is snakebites. My dog is small and can be lifted in and out of a vehicle. He can be picked up and put down away from the side pipes. Trying to have a large dog ride in a Cobra would risk severe burns on the side pipes. I understand why lots of you think that a dog riding in a Cobra is crazy. It is too risky and too much of a hassle for the driver. A small dog that can be controlled changes the equation.

I do not know if I will let my dog ride in the Cobra, but I like having the option. I will wear ear protection and will offer it to those riding with me, including my dog. It sounds like many do not use ear protection in their Cobra. If I do not kill myself, I expect to live a long time. I want health to go with the long life. If I think that it is important to me, I will try and provide it as an option for others.

my two german shepherds overpower the seat and are dangerous to have in the car..they would eat someone's hand or arm that dared to stick it in the car. so , no need of ear plugs or a harness for them..

what should I do with my goldfish ? no ears and can't get seat belts on them. help. bill

Bill, I use a double gimbal drink holder for my goldfish.... They can take up to 3.2 G's with this set up.................

i can get some new clear glass coffee mugs so i can see my fish and they can see me. they have 'anxiety attacks' if separated so now they ( and me) can remain calm.

my goldfish will be eternally grateful !! me too. i can now sleep at night and drive my car at ease knowing i have my faithful and trusting fish with me.

now , if i find out the fish store lied to me and these goldfish really have ears, then i will be mad and will check with carroll deweese to see what he suggests...by then his dog will be field tested , er, highway tested, so to speaketh (and heareth thou too)...

Hearing protection for dogs is possible as are hearing aids. BUT my main source of income for the last 31 years as a licensed, certified audiologist is the evaluation and rehabing of HUMANS with hearing and balance problems.

The majority of hearing loss that I see in adult males is noise induced and preventable.

Please, PLEASE don't protect your hearing! I plan to retire in 5 years! Dr. Aud.

I have a Miniture Pinscher that loves riding in the Cobra. He get so excited that he jumps in the car without opening the door. Good for me he can he has about a 4 ft vertical jump, he clears the door without touching it. I do keep him on a short leash to keep him off the paint. Generally dogs have problems with higher pitch sound like sirens. I am not concern about his hearing.

Great to hear about your dog. I am not the only one who has thought about having his dog in a Cobra.

Also, I wish that I could jump as high as your dog can compared to his high.

Do you have any problems with the dog and hot pipes? Anakebite would not be good.

Dixie-the-wonder dog rides in EVERYTHING with an engine: racing go kart (very loud), Cobra, jet ski (55mph). She will sit on the jet ski for an hour in the sun waiting to go for a ride. cb

Fish have no "ears" as such but a laterial line. Detects pressure changes. The bowl should effectively protect it from the pressure waves (sound) from the pipes-gimbles older would be valuable.

Doggie helmut would be important but should also have a "HANS" device as well

There IS noise canceling technology out there. Purdue U school of eng. has developed a noise canceling auto muffler 10-12 years ago that used 180 degree sound waves to help ofset (cancel) the noise. Industry has used this concept to control noise in the working enviroment. State-of-the art programable digital hearing aids are now using the technology to eliminate "feedback" in hearing aids.
