Sand blasting!!
I want to finish a Ford Tunnel Wedge aluminum intake. I want to media blast it, but what little experimentation I have done does NOT give me the correct finish.
I don't wnt it to look polished or, smoothed out.It keeps coming out like it has a satin finish.
I am trying to achieve the same coarse finish that would be on this intake when it was brand new.
Anyone out there who can recommend the correct media to use for such a finish?

I agree...glass bead. I had a local machine shop do my intake for $25.00...took 1 day.

Glass beading is what I have done to my own aluminum intakes, but they get very dirty very easily now. Their appearance is not exactly factory original either, it is more satin. There are companies that restore aluminum intakes to their original appearance, check in Hemmings for them.

Turk,
I have a couple of blast cabinets at my shop and glass bead is not coarse enough for the finish I think you are looking for. Try aluminum Oxide 80 grit. Try that on a sample piece of aluminum and if that is to coarse try a little finer. We blast a lot of aluminum for painting and Anodizing.

Turk I agree that glass beading is close to the look your looking for but it will get dirty and you will not be able to clean it. I did a resto on a 62 fuel inj. vette and had the same issue. First we blasted it with glass, then using a custom blend of mathews paint we match an acrylic polyurethane enamel to it, then we top coated it with 80 percent gloss clear. You couldn't tell it from the origanal peice and cleaned up easy for the shows.

Turk,you might try satin clear coat(eastwood or satin powder coat when you get the finish you want. chuck
