M40 Update #1:
Chassis description: The M40 chassis will be a semi-monocoque design (a steel chassis with stressed alloy panels), set up to meet SCCA homologation standards for safety. It will include a roll cage structure at mid bulkhead and a forward hoop located at the dash/footbox area. Torsional lbs/degree will be noted after testing.
The chassis is being designed from the start to utilize as many off the shelf (or "off the donor") parts as possible (everything else will be in the kit). These are proven parts, and are all available from a single donor vehicle, or they can be purchased new from either a dealership or from stores like AutoZone, Pep Boys or other auto parts supply shops. These parts include (this is not a complete list) front uprights, rear uprights, brake assemblies, wheels, complete pedal assembly, rack and pinion unit, radiator, complete steering column, shift mechanism, handbrake, engine, gearbox and halfshafts.
The target design weight of the chassis is ~1,450 lbs.
Keep in mind that there is a fairly sizable aftermarket out there that can supply anything from bigger brakes to gummier tires, all the way up through a hot rod engine and engine management system; I am not using an unknown or unsupported car as the donor!
These are preliminary bulletins. As the M40 gets closer and closer to production, some of these items may change.
Your pal,
Meat.

the big question will a V8 be used or will this be a little engine replica (V6, rotery, VW). By V8 I do not think a northstar engine will qualify as it is a sideways design.

"Transverse" is how the Northstar is mounted, I believe. I'm not sure (which should lead you to conclude that since I don't know HOW it's mounted, I'm probably not using it...hint, hint!).
No, it will not have a transverse-mounted V8. In a GT40 the engine is right behind the driver's head (just like it is on my car), and the V8 is mounted properly; spinny parts and distributor in front!
Just relax. I'll post more info as I get closer to production!

Meat, I can appreciate that you have something in the works, but I have removed your spam posts here. When you have something proven, we can put something in the news section, but that still doesn't mean you post the same information in three different forums at Club Cobra. I am pretty certain you knew that wasn't acceptable. If you would like to advertise here to support the cost of the forum and in turn help your venture, let me know.

Thanks for the assist, Brent! I was unsure of where to post; it's GT40 information, so my first thought was that it should be in the GT40 section, but maybe it should be in the All Cobra Talk section because it's just general information, or maybe the news section since it's possible that it's newsworthy to have a GT40 replica that's priced at $14.9K.
...If you want it in All Cobra Talk, that's fine by me.
Your pal,
Meat.

Meat,
(Not meant as a jab)... but how about some specifics rather than drawings? I'm still trying to figure out what tranny and engine you are going to use (other than the Ford Focus quip I made months ago).

Because I'm an impatient person, I put up the latest information I have as soon as I have it.
I spent the day down at the engineer place, checking out the shop. Very cool stuff! I'm really, really impressed! The chassis is going to be spectacular! And I'm not just saying that, I really am impressed with the workmanship I saw.
I don't have any pictures of anything yet; the body is still in the 'buck' stage, and the chassis is still inside the computer. It'll all come out eventually, but I want it NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! And as long as it's not going to compromise the project, I will put out everything I can as soon as it gets to me.
I'd rather have someone say "gee, Meat, you might want to use x instead of the y you're using in the design stage rather than in the I'm done stage.
For instance, I'm leaning towards the GT40MkII front clip because it gives a little bit more room for the suspension travel than the MkI does...even though the rest of the M40 is a MkI. It doesn't significantly affect the body to have the little bit of extra room. That was a great idea!
Your pal,
Meat.

"I'd rather have someone say "gee, Meat, you might want to use x instead of the y you're using in the design stage rather than in the I'm done stage."
I take it then you haven't moved forward on the project to the point where you need to identify an engine and transmission?
(I'll wait to ask about the tail lights and marker lights until later.)
