Re: All cars are better

Hey, I'll say it!

Evan's car is better than my car. What the heck, everybody's car is better than my car. When you REALLY like your car, and you know it, nothing else matters.

All that matters is you like your car. Who cares what anybody else thinks, I don't. Some of you guys get yourselves all wrapped around that axle on silly stuff. Don't sweat the small stuff in life! Life is too short.

Now go have fun, and enjoy your ugly Cobras! :)

Turk 02-03-2003 07:33 PM

Chaplin,
I have a 94 Chevy Cavalier that looks better than Evan's car. It is faster too. I am better looking than he is.
I guess the latter is no accomplishment. After all, who ISN'T?

TURK

Great Asp 02-03-2003 09:07 PM

no fair!

Turk,

Of course you're better looking than Evan. You have the "Euro-Look" going on. How can Evan compete with that?

Evan does have that other skill.......he can debate you into submission. You got that beat?

Deconney: No way. Your car is definitely better than mine! Don't even kid around about that.

Turk: What are you smoking? There is no way your car will EVER be better than mine. No. It just is not possible.

:MECOOL:

no way. turk is a used car salesman, all attorney's will think they won after they deal with him, as they drive away in a $40,000 YUGO !!!! i can see it now, on the back of Evan's CSX , a bumper sticker that reads : MY OTHER CAR IS A YUGO and a license plate frame that says " TURK'S USED CARS " ! dont' mess with a used car salesman !!! Bill

SPF Vs ERA

Sooooo....I found a new, uncompleted SPF at a dealer that someone had to bail out of the contract on and got a great deal. --car is shipping shortly.

Yep, if you want a new ERA you're going to have to wait. But, there are a lot of us out there that patiently waited a long time for our name to finally rise to the top of the list and continue to be very pleased that we did. ;)

Rickd 05-16-2008 06:26 AM

Each ERA that is built is a custom built car. They don't build spec cars to ship to dealers. The details that YOU want, plus the tremendous chasis & engineering detail, are what makes it a really special car. Peter Portante, the GM / head guru, is THE guy who prepares ALL QUOTES. Bob Putnam is the head engineer. The waiting time varies, and is different according to what you are buying. A kit to build yourself, as an unpainted roller, is probably 4-6 months. A painted roller or "turnkey minus" might be 9 months. A turnkey, motor installed etc., ready to drive, might be 9 - 12 months, depending on how busy they are. My ERA is my second cobra. I had another brand that I bought used, for two years, and had a chance to drive an ERA (after I had read their spec sheet and manual a dozen times), and that was it - sold my old one and put a deposit on a new ERA. It's been a blast - including the 3 visits to New Britain to see the car in varying stages of build. Enjoy your new ride. Rickd

Wow -- you really dug deep to find this thread to post your first comment on Club Cobra. This thread had been dormant for 5 years!

Seems that you got the car that you wanted and best fit your needs in the end. Enjoy driving it!

Chaplin 05-16-2008 07:58 AM

I find it hard to believe that Peter could not give a quote on a car. If you know Peter, you know he never misses an opportunity to make a sale;)

In any event, that is the difference between ERA and SPF. Think of ERA more as a family owned custom build shop and SPF like one of the OEM manufacturers with a vast network dealers. Dealing with each has its plusses and minuses. As far as ERA goes, the only minus I can think of is that it does take time to get your car, but the end product is more than worth the wait. But if you are one of those people that "gotta have it NOW", than SPF is the way to go.

Enjoy your SPF, they too are nice cars!

madmaxx 05-16-2008 08:11 AM

Congratulations, you cannot go wrong with a SPF.

JWilly 05-16-2008 09:01 AM

Congrats and welcome to the SPF family. The best Cobra replica for each owner is the one parked in his/her garage. I chose SPF mainly because of the dealership and I could get the setup I wanted without much hassle. With the dealership, it's easy to get parts and work done I do not want to do myself. I did look at the CSX continuation roller but I decided that it was not worth $10,000 more than the SPF roller for how I want to use the car.

BUT I love em all! Snakes rule!

TerrysSPF 05-16-2008 09:11 AM

Wow! This is a blast from the past!

Era is not like other company's that build cobras

Panavia Sorry you feel that ERA was not responding to you. It takes about 1 year to get an ERA car. ERA cars are NOT MASS PRODUCTED, like some other in the market. ERA sells 80% of it's cars from word of mouth through thier customers. ERA has a 90 day waiting time even before your name is put in the system. This is even after you give your deposit to them. ERA is the standard that all other cobra replicas are measured. Quality, fit and finish, what special equipment you want in your car,( out board brakes for the rearend on a Jag rearend, power steering, any Ford motor and trans combo you want, supercharged with the correct twin setup). The list goes on. I'm not saying that the other companies can't do this. The resale value on an ERA is higher than any other car but a Shelby with a CSX number. ERA is only going to build about 1,200 cars total, that's it. GT-40 cars will be about the same number as the total built from Shelby. ERA completes about 3 cars a week total not 15-20 like other companies. If you poll 100 owners of ERA cars, that have waited the year to get there car, 99 out of 100 will say it was worth the wait and very happy about the final product. There are cars in the low 100 numbers that still look like they where just built. Good luck with your SPF car and the build. Rick L ERA owner and very happy.

madmaxx 05-16-2008 08:30 PM

"The resale value on an ERA is higher than any other", I have to disagree. Cars that are known are the ones that sell the fastest and with the highest resale. I surfed this sight for a year before buying all I heard was BDR and SPF. ERA would pop up now and then. I actually thought ERA's were on the factory five type build not factory assembled. Obviously I was wrong but perception is reality. I can flip a SPF or a BDR three times faster than an ERA.

ERA owners keep talking about originality, SPF is the only car with Carol Shelby name on it!! Above you mentioned power steering, I am not experts but I do not think the originals had power steering or a jag rearend.

"SPF is the only car with Carol Shelby name on it" -- THAT is funny. I have seen plenty of ERA's with Carol signature on them. **)

Are you somehow related to Evan? This is the first time I have ever heard anyone compare ERA to being similar to a Factory Five build. Each company has a distinctly different means to the end product. Both companies are highly successful in what they do. Your comment clearly shows your research on the manufacturers was flawed.

Got the Bug 05-16-2008 09:42 PM

This thread make me laugh. Run what ya brung!

ERA = REPLICA, beautiful car, patience is a virtue.
SPF = REPLICA, beautiful car, instant gratification.

Make no mistake about it, Carroll licenses the SPF because he gets paid for it.
