Default Quick Jacks or Full Bumpers?

Which do you prefer, and why? I have the full bumpers front and rear; as a street car, it's the look that I prefer. I would think the quick-jacks would be real shin-gashers.

I liked the full bumpers and will go that way on Cobra #2 if at all possible. As a daily driver, I just feel better with a little more protection. Looks better? Hmmmm,,,,thats a tough call.

OUCH,,,,,bet those quick jacks hurt worse the side pipes when you encounter them.

I personally like the uncluttered/simple look of the quick jacks. The only down fall are the questions I get....like "what are those things"??? As for protection, I would have to agree that the quick jacks are useless. Although I can't see the full bumpers or bumperettes doing much either.

I prefer the bumperettes ... or nothing at all. The front of the Cobra really looks pretty darn good with no bumpers and no quickjacks.

I still have the bumperette with the blue Armco , If I had the quick jacks my front end would probably look like this.

I prefer the bumperettes. They probably should be called "touchers", since they do not provide much more protection than letting you know that you are starting to touch something when you are going forward or backing up at very slow speeds. I like their looks too.

Does anyone use "quick jacks" in racing anymore? Other alternatives should be faster.

Quick jacks for sure...You get to explain what they are, plus they look racey and were on the race cars. The bumperettes do nothing but further mess up your body in a collision, plus they look like big silver boegers...

Not much shin damage, but lotsa head bashing when moving around under it whilst on the Kwicklift. I vote for the jacks..

I vote for quick jacks. It's just another detail the says "Cobra", like pusher fans, side pipes, and driver side only roll bar.

Racer-x, it sure looks like a bent and bruised bumperette on that photo.........Maybe those were the 2.5 MPH version and yours are the 5 MPH kind ..........

I had the full bumpers on the Butler, but the new car will have quick jacks. Wouldn't mind finding an actual quick jack to use to change tires at the track, but I'm not sure they're all that safe. Anybody?

I had the chrome bumpers and changed out to stainless quickjacks. I like the look much better. Here's a 'side by side' comparison.

I'm wrestling with this question, too. I lean toward the Jack Pads for looks, but protection, although slight, is provided by the bumperettes. Being of Scottish decent is a factor, too. I'll have to lay out another couple hundred bucks to make the switch. The money will be better spent on high-octane gas.

As for using the jack pads for what they were intended, forget it unless you want to carry around that humongous jack. A low-profile, light-weight scissors jack under the upright or control arm works fine. And my tire changes don't have to be done in seconds under racing conditions.

Guess what? I'm still undecided on which way to go because of LOOKS.

The "bumpers" or"bumperettes" are just as non-functional as the quick jacks. I prefer the quickjacks much more, the chrome hoop ruins the vintage racecar look. If you have sidepipes, it needs quickjacks. If it's a roadster without sidepipes or rollbar, then the bumpers. Besides, it's easier to bang yor noggin on the quickjacks when sliding out from under the car. I also like NEITHER, that is a clean look, if the holes aren't there.

Cranky,

The Cobra in that photo had bumperettes!

Try not hit any armco and the front end will not need anything. That is my best advice for you. Not that you were asking. Oh.. and if you put a BB in your car it will slow down a lot faster so as to avoid the armco in another way.

Is a bumperette a female bumper?

Now for the real question: When swapping from bumpers to jack pads, a bolt- and sleeve-length change is required. If anyone can supply these dimensions I sure would appreciate it. I want to make sure the front and rear Jack Pads end up in their correct positions relative to the body.
