...what a bucket of poppycock!
(...pardon my french)

Excaliber 02-01-2003 08:35 AM

Can they print such blatant lies and get away with it? That is SO ridiculous it is false advertsing!

And I'll bet..

...they were all "titled in California" way back when and will now be built with original parts that were also stored in a chicken coop.

Someone needs to find all the SAI company cars from the 60's-the cars Ford provided for CS and the management to drive, many Galaxies, Falcons and some Thunderbirds, etc. Those would be original Shelby's right?

The real humor is that those people who believe this stuff and the p!ss-poor reporting done in magazines about this stuff i.e. those who just reguritate the press release claptrap deserve it. And those who buy this stuff deserve to spend their money on this fluff.

Rick;)

If the "Eleanor" GT 500's are retored Shelby GT 500s I understand their place in the registry. After all many Cobras and other Shelby cars in the registry are not still in their original spec condition.

If they are not true GT 500s and just Mustangs retored to look like GT 500 Eleanors then I don't get it.

computerworks 02-01-2003 09:48 AM

....they are just old '67's that are being restored and being "knighted" as GT500E's in 2003.

If they put these in the registry, they might as well put the cans of Shelby Caramel Corn and the damn Cobra Guitars in there as well.

...what a dilution of credibility.

RACERAL 02-01-2003 10:11 AM

I know it may be dumb of me.. (ffr owner and all) but is the new thunderbird a real thunderbird....i think the new csx cars are real ones.. just a 2002-2003 or what ever...:o :JEKYLHYDE

Bannon 02-01-2003 10:27 AM

Interesting

Al,

You make an interesting point. First comment I heard on the subject that made me think. I agree that they are real just not original. My SPF will be real enough to me as I am sure your FFR is real enough to you. I like em all...

JB

REAL 1 02-01-2003 10:44 AM

Ron: If thats the case I agree. They should not be in the Registry.

Is there a Shelby connection to the building of the car? Does he sign them or endorse them?

What catagory are they to be placed in the registry?

Evan, The cars are being built (restored, modified) by a separate party, NOT owned in any way by C.S. He has done little more than "consult" and showed up for some pics. It's not AT ALL like the building of the new CSX cars.

A big "marketing" party is the only connection I can realistically make between C.S. and the Eleanor cars.

Makes me sick to see them in the registry. I'm not a Shelby basher, but that quote in the mag about "stored cars" makes my blood boil. And you can bet C.S. will go along with or worse started the "rumor" his self!

What a joke. Says it is made from a '67 or '68 fastback.

RACERAL, (re: Thunderbird)

Damn, that was a good point!!!!

I just hate it when that happens.....

Excaliber,

We have a place down the street that stores old cars....

It's called a "junkyard"

REAL 1 02-01-2003 12:59 PM

If they have no connection to CS or SAI and/or are not restored Shelby GTs I don't think they should be in the registry.

Ridiculous in fact.

I will try and find out more though.

REAL 1 02-01-2003 01:47 PM

You post some uncalled for snide scarstic comment directed at me and "I'm supposed to get over it."

How about your running me into the wall comment?

I think its you that needs to get over it.

So in response I again am just pointing out the facts my friend. Get a CSX you'll feel better.

DAVID GAGNARD 02-01-2003 01:57 PM

Guys;

While I have not seen the "new" Gone in 60 Secounds,I just saw a documentary this week on one of the speed channels about the original Gone in 60 Secounds. The guys last name was Haliki, can not remember his first, was two initials....... His widow was in the documentary....They showed numerous clips from the "original" movie as well as a lot of behind the scenes shots as well as the orignial car used in the movie just the same as when the movie was finished, all beat up.......It was a gold looking 1973 Mustang..........Never did it say anything about a 67 GT-500 or show one.......It was named Eleanor.....

Again I have not seen the latest version of the movie, but the original "Eleanor" was a plane jane 73 Mustang acording to what I saw on the documentary.....

Anyone care to inform me,the uniformed, about this????????

David

Excaliber 02-01-2003 02:32 PM

David,,,,your 100% correct. The "original" Eleanor was nothing special at all, which was OK, cool movie.

The "big deal" here is related to the SECOND movie where the car was a "GT-500". First movie was a classic. Second movie was pretty cool with LOTS of hot cars in it. In typical Hollywood fashion you can make all kinds of arguments about the "realism" of either movie (,,,"man that guy shifted at least 6 times during the drag race",,,,,etc).

What ever,,,,,I just enjoy the show, I want to see that "shift" again, ha ha.
