Who owns the real 427 in Wisconsin?? All I know of is 2 original 289 cars. Jim

jhein 04-03-2003 02:32 PM

Jim, I've had a couple people tell me that there are 1 or 2 'real' cobras here in the Fox River Valley. I have no idea if those are in fact real, and if so whether they are 289's or 427's.

Jhein, One is owned by Raleigh Stevenson in the Sherwood area. Not sure of the spelling of his name. He also has a 65 GT350. Cal Metal has one in Menominie. Heard of one in the Green Bay area but I've not seen it. Jim

Hi Folks,

This butt is certainly out of the ballpark compared to the rest.

Nothing original here!!!!!!!!

Hey Richard, isn't that the same car your parking on the main page club cobra? I just noticed how open the rear wheel area is. Great! You can get some BIG meats in that baby!

Ernie

Richard Hudgins 04-03-2003 08:52 PM

Hi Ernie,

The standard rear tires are 335/35/17. (12 inch rims)

There is room for another 4 inches of tire as designed.

The problem is that nobody makes a big enough tire for the JBL.

Christ, the tire makers make special stuff for GM, Porsche, Chrysler, etc.

Why not for JBL?

Must have something to do with cash.

Excaliber 04-03-2003 10:14 PM

12 inch rims!!!! YO!! Now your talking, man those JBL's are SO cool.

Ernie

Marshall Lowe has an original 427 SO unrestored and he's in the Fox River Valley. He's out of Cary, IL I think. He's at the Crystal Lake car show with it on Thursday nights.

Ever since the ERA vs. SPF thread I have looked closely at lots of cobra pictures. One thing I can say is that just about every original CSX car I have seen looks different. The new CSX cars early in production (I assume this was before they started getting their bodies from Kirkham) look different then most originals and different than the newer (Kirkham) cars. Everyone seems to say the the SPF cars have a perky, or some similar descriptor, butt. I can see differences in my SPF compared to the current production CSX/KMP cars but not really in the rear. I will agree that the nose is a wee bit longer, the front fender flares dont taper back in quite as sharply, and the angle of the back leg of the roll bar is different. The rear I just dont see. I wonder if it has to do with the ride height more then the body shape and thats why I don't seem to notice it? I would like to see a side by side pic, doesn't Dan Semko have a CSX and an SPF??
