Default 295/50-15 on 7"wide wheels????

I tried to get 275/50 radial T/A's but they couldn't find them in any of there stores.Has BFG stopped making this size? The next size up is 295/50. I know they are a little wide for the 7" wide wheels but has anyone had any luck with them.

Hi Mike,

Tire Rack has a listing for seven different models in the 295/50-15 size, made in six different brand names. They list two BFGs in the 275/50-15 size.

What worries me ( and should worry you! ) is that not only are they an "S" rated tire - read "lowest speed rating" - but the narrowest rim BFG recommends is 8" for the 295s, and 7-1/2" for the 275s.

Where I come from, putting these onto a 7" rim might constitute some sort of death wish...

You might be better off with some 245 or 255/60-15s at least for the rims you have. Still not a good high speed tire, though.

Tom

Estimated top speed for a 302 and 3:55 gears is about 110-115, at say, 5500 rpm? You can calculate it, I didn't bother, but I bet I'm not far off. Unless you got a really good motor and can pull a 5th gear over drive, then maybe 120-125. This assumes of course you have enough horse power to rev to 5500 in 4th at that speed.

So what is a "low speed" tire rated for in mph?

Ernie

I just ordered the 275/50's from tire rack.com. These are S speed
rated which is 118mph. I plan to have a set of better tires for the track. I would not feel uncomfortable taking a s speed rated tire
to 130 or so for a second or two on the straights.

I have the 275/50/15's mounted on an 8" wheel. Just got my new compomotives, and they will be mounted on a 10" wheel soon.

It's hard to find them at Discount Tire..they had to order them in from Houston...2 days...no worries.

Had a set of 275's monted on 7" rims (not on a Cobra) a few years ago. They were like marshmellows. I definatly ould not use 295's on 7" rims, not even on the drag strip.
