A CC member from NJ who shall remain unamed by me stated that my side door pockets looked like they came from Staples. Maybe he is right but, you have to admit that they are different and I think kind of cool. His car an A&C looks really nice, especially his seats, if we ever meet up maybe he will let me sit in his car and check them out. No hard feelings on my side everyone is entitled to their opinion.

re: the visible dents from the hand hammered bare aluminum, "It looks like you got caught in a pretty bad hail storm. How much did insurance settle for? And now that you took off the old ruined paint job, are you going to fix it, or just keep the money"?

Ron61 02-20-2003 11:21 AM

Brett,

Now that the insurance has paid for the old battered body with all the paint off and everything can I have it for the salvage price ?

Ron   :3DSMILE: :D

Fred, that Man Show episode that featured the strip BB game with the twins should be required viewing as a right of passage for every young man...
That may have been the most memorable moment in television history.
It brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it....

Not really the worst thing, but the most curious to me.....

A blonde college girl (no, I'm not making this up) came up to the house soliciting for some organization. The wife sends her out to the garage (passing the buck), where I'm working on the Cobra. She looks at the other car and asks what it is. I tell her it's a Subaru 2.5RS. She says "cool car" ignoring the Cobra that I'm working on. I tell her "that's pretty funny considering that this one's a Cobra". She says "yah", having no idea why it was funny.

Later, I asked my wife if she was going to make it a habbit sending cute, blonde college girls out to the garage. I've had no more visits. :D

Kieth,

If they think you babble to much about a car that you don't even own, just tell them to wait until you get your's.

Ron, you are right. I can only imagine the amount of Cobra babble will rise exponetially when that momentous occasion actually occurs.

I had some jerk the other day telling me that it looked nice but (while shaking his head) it was just a kit. He actually told me that it didn't look right with the "Powered by Ford" emblem on the quarter panel. Then he wanted me to gloat over his POS MG that he had done a hack job restoration on " a real british sports car" as he put it. What a loser.

Hi Guys,

A good/funny comment...There's lots of bad ones but lots of good one also.

I was at a Good Guys show in Pleasanton last Year and SPF 343 was parked in the Superformance display along with 8 other cars.

A family came by Mom %/, Dad, small baby and a 6 year old boy. I asked the little guy if he wanted to get in and when he said YEAH !!!! and Dad said okay I lifted him into the Cobra. While he was sitting there I started it and told him to slide down and hit the gas/loud pedal...the kid was really excited.

Shut the car down...and they walked away...There was this Johnny Paycheck looking character standing there along with about 30 other people and he raised his hand and said..

"Can I have a turn" The whole group laughed out loud and I just shook my head......I've done this several times with little guys at Hot august nights and different events...infecting the next generation with Cobra fever.

Why would you want a car with no heater, defroster, top or power steering?

Hal Copple 02-20-2003 05:40 PM

in the three years and 50K miles driven in my Olthoff SPF, here in SC, i have only had one hurtful comment made to me.

When my car was pretty new, my son Chris and I hosed it off, vacuumed out the leaves, and went and parked in a car show, several hundred cars. I did not realize that many people are pretty serious about car shows, with carpet, mirrors, displays, etc. But Chris and were enjoying ourselves, answering questions, when this young woman came up, and told me "this is why it costs so much to come see you in the office", and then strutted off. I did not recognize her.

I was stunned, and hurt, as apparantly she comes to our three physician practice, at which i work really really hard.

so i packed up the car, and Chris and I drove away, and we never again went to another car show. My friend at the speed shop told me later that we would have one first place overall, if we had just thought to hose off the undercarriage. We did not know that the judges would get down and look UNDER the car!

So i think jelousy is pretty much the root of folks' hurtful comments.

Many years ago, i realized that for men, they get into trouble over mony, sex, or drugs, and for women, it is exclusively jelousy.

No more car shows for the Hal and the Great Stroker!

John Montgomery 02-20-2003 05:56 PM

Once, a clerk at the local gas station asked if it was a Bullet.

And another time, just after I bought the car, I was at my first cruise-in when some brain surgeon/rocket scientist walks up. He remarks to his friend, "you can tell it's a fake because of the fender flares. Real ones had flat sides". I tried to explain that whille mine is a replica, there were two versions-a 289 slabside and a 427 version and so on....But he'd hear none of that from me and acted like I was the dumba$$ and walked away.

Some people........

Ron61 02-20-2003 05:57 PM

Hal,

Don't let people like that ruin your fun. They are just jealous and most likely don't even like themselves. My dentist is a good friend and car nut and everry time I go in I ask him what kind of new car he is going to buy after I pay him.

Ron :) :) :)

Marvelous set of observations, Hal. You hit several nails on the head. People are like a bucket of crabs. I've been told that if you have a bucket of crabs, you don't have to put a lid on the bucket to keep the crabs in, because, every time one of the crabs tries to crawl out, the other crabs pull it back in the bucket.

Excaliber 02-20-2003 06:04 PM

Ha ha,,,I kid my dentist like that too. I wouldn't mind "making payments" on a Cobra. But it's killing me to make payments on his Porsche, lol.

Last "Car show" I went to was a Saturday night after racing all day. I had the "meat balls" and "stickers" still on it. The car had "rubber dust" and such all over it. A kid, 10 or so I guess, asked if it was a "real race car". I told him I had JUST come from the race track and that it sure was! You should have seen his face! Ha ha, I let him sit in it and he was just blown away!

I didn't get a "trophy", but I did get something WAY better, a nice memory!

Hal, Brett

You need to call your patients "clients"--they are a much better breed of folks--far more understanding.

Had a major arbitration today involving my client, Land O' Lakes and the Teamsters. Had my laptop sitting at my spot--and the background pic came up--the pic David K. took of me sitting in the uncomplated car with the arruminum pretty well sanded. So--the LOL HR Director from the twin cities comes up and asks me about it and I start telling him. Before you know it, The arbitrator, the union's attorney, his witness, our witnesses--they're all standing behind me pushing each other to look at my little laptop screen. The truckdrivers start telling me how to keep it clean, etc.--these are the guys that polish our milk trucks, another guy's talking about how rightious Fords are, another starts talking about his Chevy II bracket racer,..........etc.

So, the Western Regional LOL manager starts talking to the drivers about having a company car show for the yearly employee party--and they want my soon to be completed car there. Not one joke about attorney bills from the client, or how I trashed the wage rates from the truckdrivers. Cobras are like peace pipes.

Pete C 02-20-2003 06:22 PM

Jamo,

You miss the point. We want our attorneys to be wealthy, crafty, ruthless, scoundrels. In sharp contrast we want our physicians to be intellectual, spiritual, caring and selfless advocates.

Cheers, Pete C

Jamo 02-20-2003 06:26 PM

Brett,

Life is about choices. Do you want your wealth in the hands of your attorney or your ex wife?

Cheers, Pete C
