What's the WORST thing someone said about your Cobra?

I have only had my NAF Cobra about a year, but you long-timers may have heard some good rips on your car. Probably the worst thing someone said to me was "Is that an old Corvette?" Or, when I told someone that I have a Ford engine, They would say "Should have put a Chevy in it!" So, What have you heard?

Excaliber 02-19-2003 05:40 PM

Hmmm,,,,,I been wracking my brain to think of the worst thing someone said about my Cobra. I'm coming up blank! More than one asked if it was a Vette, but I could tell they were still awe struck and sincerely wanted to know WHAT the heck it was!

KobraKarl 02-19-2003 06:47 PM

Jamo ,

now if you want to change it to" whats the worst thing any one said to ME in my car" the this topic gets some legs

Jamo 02-19-2003 06:50 PM

When I had the top on the Butler (now the Douglass Butler) and was getting in and out of it--I would usually hear "ugh", "eeek" or "yuck" as my pants would slide off my a$$.:JEKYLHYDE

About to leave an upscale restaurant when a sweetheart of an elder lady in a Caddy asked me "What kind of MG is that, young man?" (I'm 58!). I told her what it was, and she was very complimentary.
Maybe the most irritating thing was coming out of a gift shop just in time to hear a BMW driver (showing how knowledgeable he was?) rap the fender with his knuckle and say "See, it's fiberglass". Hacked me off, but the two ladies with him were very nice, so I behaved myself...it was just envy on his part.

Re:

mr0077,

the next time this happens, the thing to do is to walk up and knock on the flicker's head real hard
and say, "see, it's hollow".

Don't ya just hate that...

mr0077 02-19-2003 07:07 PM

Duane, THAT'S FUNNY!! I wish I'd thought of that...helluva good way to make a point...

Jeff Frigo 02-19-2003 07:10 PM

"Is that an MG?"

KobraKarl 02-19-2003 07:18 PM

Well lets see I remember last summer growing weary(4 or 5 seconds) of waiting for a truck to make its way up a fairly steep winding grade and he called out to me as i drove out of sight !@#$@ *#^ you %#^&*&* #$$ hole I %&#@ hope you @#$%*%& DIE!! or something like that

Fred Douglass 02-19-2003 07:21 PM

This almost a Hal story....

I'm just shrieking around Woods Hole Mass (loaded with yogurt-eaters, sandalistas and other truly heinous vestiges of the 60's. LOTSO Navy contract money at WHOI, but you'd never know it looking at the Lefties on every corner. It was at one of these junctures that I sat idling in Jamo's red beastie. I was approached...mind you......approached by some afghan-bedecked harpy whose hair looked like it was done at a macrame-and-acid party. She had the apparent need to cross the other lane and lean down towards me in order to hurl some invective, nno doubt engendered by my peerless mount.

She bellowed: "I bet you couldn't get lucky with THIS any more than you could without it!" I said right back to her: "I bet you couldn't get lucky in Walpole (local prison) with a handful of pardons!" She was about to say something in hopeless retort when Gawd gave me 10 car-lengths in which to expend some more BFG rubber. I blasted home, finished some chores, scarfed the evening meal and settled in for back-to-back "Man Shows"---the first of wh/ featured The TWINS playing strip B-ball...another perfect day in balmy New England...thanks, Jamo...

Edley Rondinone 02-19-2003 07:52 PM

KobraKarl: Yes, that would work too, as long as what they said had SOMETHING to do with you and your car!!!

CRZN427 02-19-2003 07:57 PM

I was at a local car show with my LAE, probably 400 cars.

I was standing around answering questions and listening to remarks from onlookers, lots of them at this time, when this rather elderly woman (note that I didn't say lady) walked up to see what the crowd was looking at.

It became apparent that she was the leader of about a dozen individuals, probably waiting to see what she would leave each of them in her will, it couldn't be that far in the future, because the little crowd hoovered around her not saying much of anything.

She asked in a rather coarse voice what king of car it was. Before I could speak, someone in the crowd pointed to my windshield display and told her it was a Cobra replica, to which she said, "A phony baloony, who cares about that".

I was the first to respond this time, I told her to look around and see all the people who were interested, and then I asked her, "Since your so damn critical, what did you bring to show".

It got behind the hand chuckles from several of her followers and lots of out loud laughter from the rest of the crowd.

She displayed several shades of purple, turned and stormed off. The laughter intensified.
