Cobra Weights, Etc.

I borrowed a set of digital wheel scales this weekend to weigh my Cobra. Car weighed 2801# (Front 49.3% Rear 50.7%) I was surprised to find the weight as I had guessed at 2500# While I was at it I weighed everything around the shop: My 63 Galaxie weighed 3811# My 69 Cougar weighed 3888# I even weighed my new trailer: 4698# (Less Cobra, but still loaded with gear after the Austin trip) Hooked up trailer to truck, loaded Cobra, and checked trailer tongue weight with the Cobra in different positions (12" can change tongue weight as much as 191# ) Quite a bit can be learned with a set of scales. I guess tomorrow I am going to put them back under the Cobra and play with the adjustments on the coilover shocks. I need a set of these!

Be sure to move the pads around and retake your readings. The gel in the pads can tack a set and very by as much as 150 pounds. We have quit using the digital wheel scales in favor of the Less expensive but moor accrete manual scales. Speed way sales a set for about $650. Your car may not be that heavy. Bill E

My buddy just weighed his '64 Galaxie street/strip car, The specs:
'64 Galaxie XL 500
Mini tubs with the stock frame with coil overs and ladder bars.
10 point roll cage.
original interior, steering wheel, bucket seats and console, no rear seat.
20 gallon fuel cell and electric fuel pump
Aluminum radiator

Bill I guess the Galaxie's reasonably light weight is due to the small block with aluminum heads, Tremec 5 speed, and an empty trunk. What surprised me was 50.5% rear/49.5% front split. I guess if I ever finish that 533 big block and drop it in, the numbers will change considerably! Mike that looks like one nice Galaxie powerplant. Would like more info on the iron heads, they look nice. I assume scales are pretty close as they had been checked against a set of grain scales in February.

Nice engine! My first car was a 64 Galaxy... loved that car. I weighed the Unique two weeks ago at a local scrap yard: 2620# (full of gas, no driver). The scrap yard scales are calibrated often, so it's within 10 pounds.

My NAF with 351W, arruminum heads, 5 speed, and a half a tank of gas weighs 2450 at the local scrap yard.
