Repairs so far

Finally something to show for four months of night and weekends as time allowed. My body is repaired and in primer. Time to assemble the motor, build the bigger headers, paint, and reassemble. Last August I hit the wall at the drag strip in the finals of a "Fastest Street Car" championship in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

If all goes well, I will post some photos of the initial damage, then some of the fibreglass repairs, then bodywork and finally primer. Thank god it wasn't aluminum!!!!

Colin,

I worked for Ala Wai Marine in Hawaii for a couple years mainly repairing fiberglass boats after people would bounce them off the reef, the dock, logs, each other..................business was brisk!

You are doing everything right.,but make sure once you have it good and stable from the back, grind out a shallow "v"recess at/along the break through the gel coat and fill with mat and resin ,dont worry if it looks like hell when your done you can just shape it up with your "d.a.."when hardened

And try the left lane at your next final :)

Thanks, I did "V" the cracks and flaps, then glassed the whole area on the outside and did body work:

Would you believe I was in the left lane and hit both walls before I finally stopped!!

I'm going to the chassis shop before the track. Time to make sure the 4-link is set right and all else is OK. When I loose traction I want to still go straight!!!

More glass repairs:

Last one!!! This has been a great learning experience. I've enjoyed it and I'm glad it's done. Time for that black paint and those gold stripes that turn into snake skin.

Colin - that is excellent work, I suspect many of us would dread the kind of bodywork damage you incurred. And probably shy away from repairing it ourselves.

Good luck this season!

Colin, a lot of folks probably wouldn't have the heart to undertake that after such an accident. Others undoubtedly (myself definitely included) wouldn't have the talent to pull it off. Nice to see you've got both--looks great--

Bob

Thanks, I'm short on talent but I've got full motivation and little common sense, and little money. I think I was on my way to my first seven second run and I can't wait to get back out there.

The next challenge is building headers. I've never done that before either. How do you get them all to the same final destination from different starting points by different routes,......and all the same length??!!! Scares me but i"ll try.

Colin
