60 Minutes - SUV's

After watching the 60 Minutes thing on Sunday night about the "evils" of the dreaded SUV, got to wondering how long it will be before the idiots start coming after us (Cobra drivers) for poor gas mileage, etc.

It was news to me... didn't realize that people are out putting bumper stickers on these vehicles claiming they contribute to terrorists - or - "What would Jesus say if he knew you were driving an SUV?"

My opinion, but there are too many nuts out there with far too much time on their hands!

Hope they don't show up at the DVSF III - yikes!!!

I hardly ever use the amount of space my SUV takes up, but I drive it for safety reasons. It's sheer weight and mass almost assure my coming out "on top" in a traffic accident. Why would anyone risk their life and the lives of their friends and family by driving them around in some beer can ?? It makes no sense to me. I drive a big car to be as safe as possible. Let the friggin environmentalists drive their hybrid pieces of junk - they just better hope they don't have an accident with me or they'll be squashed.

Cal Metal 03-04-2003 12:56 PM

Safety, snow (we have lots of it), and I have one heck of a steep driveway that would be impassable in the winter without a 4X4.

Cobra + Bumper sitcker = death!

I would really like to know what our politicians are driving. If anyone knows what vehicles their congressmen drive please post it here.

What Jesus would say....

What would Jesus say if he knew I drove an SUV...? Easy....He'd probably say..."Wow, Dude......nice ride....you goin' my way? Y'know I gave my life for you, Brother...!"

What would I say...? "Yo....hop in, Bro....it don't mean nuthin' anyway....not a thing! Where ya headed...?"

What a pure unadulterated bucket of crap! What would Jesus say....? Who in their right mind thinks Jesus would even care...? The pure gall of the anti-SUV dweebs. When some company makes a comfortable, luxurious riding, well equipped vehicle that gets 48 MPG, and has sufficient power to tow a 20' Pace American trailer complete with SPF Replicar and racing wheels and tires, plus all the equipment needed at a weekend track session, then I will be more than happy to buy one. Until such time, get the F**K outta my way before I run plumb over you and your freekin' little dweeb-mobile!

Can you imagine hooking up my trailer, SPF Replicar, and all that to a Saturn...? C'mon folks, get a real life, will ya? I bought my Navigator because it had 300 horses, and a 3.73 Positrac rear end....plenty enough to tow my trailer and Cobra. Besides, it's crash survivablilty far exceeds any of those tin-cans the anti-SUV crowd wants me to buy. I've worked hard to make it to where I am today. I pay my taxes (...boy, howdy, do I...!), I obey the laws of the land (most of 'em anyway....), and have defended my country in a foreign war zone. If I want to drive an SUV... I WILL! Not only can I afford one, I can afford the gasoline to do so as well. AND pay the Federal Highway Tax associated with that gasoline that helps to fund these little consumer groups among the other worthless groups receiving funds from the Federal Government.

...and keep your freekin' yap shut about it....or go buy one for yourself! I'd much rather have my twins, my wife, and myself in my Navigator during a collision than in one of the tincans you endorse.

Bottom line.....your tin can versus my Tiger tank.....YOU LOSE!

Personally, I hope some of these left-wing little narrow minded liberal pukes DO show up at DVSF.3....I'll be among the first to run my 500 horses right up their exhaust chutes....and I know I won't be alone...!

casaleenie 03-04-2003 01:30 PM

I just hope I'm standing behind one of those tree huggers when they put the bumper sticker on my car....
I swear I'll try to kill them.... I'll try to knock them out and then throw a handgun on the ground next to them and claim they tried to kill me....
OOOP's, Sorry, rambling again....

Darn it Dan, you got me going again....

Cal Metal 03-04-2003 01:32 PM

Doesn't one of the California Senators, either Feinstein or Boxer, who slams this industry continuously, have a husband who drives a Navigator or something like that. Typical liberal hypocrite.

HIQ 03-04-2003 01:37 PM

My family rides in a Suburban. It is safe, confortable, hold two adults, two kids in car seats, has room for three more people and all our stuff.

Dan Stryffeler 03-04-2003 01:44 PM

So far, I've been under their radar... surprisingly they have not gone after my pickup truck or the cobra - yet. My neighbor has a Hummer2 - has had a couple of letters put on the windshield.

I defy anybody to try and roll his beast - may have a high center of gravity, but the thing is wider than a greyhound bus!

For some reason, the enviro-whackos have latched onto SUVs as the great satan. I don't think they really care that there are plenty of other vehicles out there that get just as bad gas milage. My Dodge Dakota Quad cab gets 13mpg, but the tree huggers don't seem to care about pickups.

They all take limo's
They all drive suv's
They all take private jets
They all have big homes
They all want us to drive Yugos, live in small dwellings and recycle.
They consider themselves the ruling class...royalty
They consider us peasants and incapable of making decisions

Having a big car/truck/SUV does not make it safer. Having a bigger vehicle than the other car in the wreck makes it safer. If we all drive 6000 pound trucks, we'll be no safer than if we all drive 3400 pound sedans. The only advantage comes when a big car and a little car collide, then you have an advantage/disadvantage depending on which vehicle you are in. So should we all get 6000 pound SUV's, then next year 7000 pound SUV's and keep going bigger and bigger?

I am not advocating banning SUV's or anything like that, this is America, if you want it, more power to you, banning anything is un-American.

I do think it is ludicrous that just about everybody thinks they need a giant truck nowadays. But I guess that's how you prove to the world what a "rugged individual" you are as you drive to the shopping mall.

Feinstein has everything and hates for anyone else to have anything. She is violently anti gun and yet she carries one quote " For Protection as a representative of the people" end quote. Her body guards had Uzis or some kind of small automatic machine guns and that was because she is an improtant person and someone may try to harm her. Most of the Calif. politicians have several cars and SUVs are abundant. Some of our politicians have car collections that rival Petersons. I have my guns and cars and will fight to the bitter end to keep them.

On the other hand I do think that cell phones and any car should be kept apart. To many wrecks just around here with people talking on their cell phone and not watching where they are driving. That has nothing to do with SUVs as I see it every day in every kind of vehicle on the road. Maybe insulate the vehicles so cell phones won't work when they are moving. Now this should really start a war !!!

We live in a rural area, our driveway is 1100 feet uphill, parts of it at a 25 degree incline. Without our 4WD SUV (6cyl) or 4WD truck (lil' four popper) getting anywhere in the winter would be impossible.

The liberals are REALLY going to far with this crap. BTW interesting fact on Sqwak Box this AM, Sadam Hussein owns 12% of the French publisher (surprised?) who puts out "Mademoiselle" and "Woman's Day" magazine. Following any one of the "101 Clutter Busting Tips" in the April issue is supporting terrorism. It's all how you spin it.

Even the reports I've been assaulted with regarding how "dangerous" SUVs are is crap. Would you rather be driving shoulder to shoulder with an 18 wheeler while in a dinky weeni-mobile or a nice solid chunk of steel. I still believe in free markets, that includes buying whatever vehicle I want.

They can pry my Sunoco card out of my cold dead hand.

Dan Stryffeler 03-04-2003 02:43 PM

This thread has probably gone as far as it should... its a damn shame that we feel that we must explain ourselves to anybody.

The good news is that this type of reporting has a half- life of about 1 month - so we should be seeing some new "evil" in the media pretty soon.

Test your pyschic ability here first on Club Cobra... what will be the next big, bad "thing"?

1) Watering yards - wastefull
2) Personal Vacations - some people can't afford them, might give them low esteem
3) Saving Money - takes it out of circulation for some one else
4) Actually preparing kids for adult-hood - grades, responsibility
5) Beer - don't even ask!!!
6) Haven't heard about guns in a while
7) Food additives
8) Fur - trust me, don't go there!
9) Pets - do you know how much food & water they consume annually - such a waste! What will grandma eat?

I personally feel it will be disposable diapers in landfill's - those wacky yuppies are at it again! Wrecking the planet.

Any other suggestions? 1st correct guess gets an all-expense paid trip to represent the cringing masses in your States Congressional district.

ROTFLMAO....

You're right, Dan... But, you left out 'Flatulence Causing Methane Gas which is causing a hole in the Ozone Layer".... I'm sure this will be the next big "stink"....

Oh, look.....I made a funny...

Ron61 03-04-2003 03:02 PM

Dan,

Pets has to win. I just saw on the news a day or so ago that some state, Florida, Texas, or somewhere back there was introducing a bill that basically says there is no such thing as a pet. They are a posession and I don't remember what all the rest was as it was so ridiculous I didn't listen to much of it.
