We usually just screw through the jambs into the 3/4" tubing of the birdcage. It attaches around the trunk and hood openings, and along the lower rockers/ jamb runners. The 'glass bodies attach in a very similar way to the aluminum bodies. :)

In a non reserve auction, the last bid goes to the amount just over the previous bid by whatever the minimum is.
In a reserve auction it would be the same unless the last bidder meets or exceeeds the reserve price at which time it would just go to the reserve price which in this case was exactly $1999. Mickmate...Just let me know..,Thanks Steve |

So I bid $2000.50 to get over that and it takes it back to the next highest amount for a winning bid. I got Steve for a whole $1.50?? That's why there were so many bids because we kept bumping it up to find out what the reserve was.

Mickmate arrives in NJ
Wow, Nick took one long drive today. About 6 hrs each way. What a super nice guy. The best part about the whole thing was that he was so excited about the purchase and rightfully so. He did get a signed Original Shelby American Body #144 to build his car with. He has the blueprints to make the car on the money. I suggested using Aluminum hood, doors, and trunk. That in conjunction with m my glass tricks, no-none will know its glass when it is done.

I was siiting on I95 reading the sign saying "heavy delays take alternate route", hell I couldn't even change lanes never mind find an alternate route. I left at 6am and got home just before 1am dog tired and happy as a pig in piggy stuff. I am so inspired to have that in my garage, well you know. I thought I was a keen Cobra junkie till I met Steve, quite a buff on it! We have it parked in the toy shop and I pulled out appropriate plates for both of them. I'll get a piccy posted soon.

The tricks are not a secret but are probably easier to talk about than write. They involve mostly what you can do to a fibergalss body to give it the allusion that it is aluminum as far as adding tubing under the front & rear cowles, the inner door jams, glassing them in and adding the appropriate rivets. It's a lot of work but all worth it. There is plenty more but unless you are dealing with a new or stripped body, it would not make any sense.

Sounds good Steve! From everyone's comments about 4027, it must have been a spectacular car. I know the new owner changed the appearance of the car. Is he planning on taking it to the Fling this year?

Get in touch with map. Check out how he mounts our Slabside bodys to the bird cage. He basically glues(same glue they hold Stealth Fighters together with) a piece of aluminum to the 'glass, and them rolls it over the tubing, and then rivits the aluminum to the tube. When one of the "experts" then runs his hand over the openings ,they feel the rivits, "feels just like a real one".

It's just time and money!
If you take the time to uniformly bring down the edge of the glass to a sheetmetal thickness combined with the tube and rivets. Another trick is a little aluminium coloured paint on its underside. The thing I've found is you need a body from a real multipart mould with rollovers on panel and dash edges. That makes them smoother, safer, stronger etc as well as being able to tuck the tube inside. The CSX I just got from Steve has an eight piece mould, and with all that they line up a treat from panel to panel. The "other brand" parked beside it pales severely by comparison.
