If you are looking to move a business take a look at Colorado. Moved my business from Sunnyvale CA to Englewood CO in 97 and have never looked back. Weather is good and the business climate is great. State Constitution does NOT allow for deficts or surpluses. Has all the benefits of a big city without the headaches.

We had that problem in Michigan too malone, until the liberals hoisted themselves on their own petard, which they are wont to do, given enough time. One best seller by Ralph Nadar torpedoed the domestic auto makers attempt at competing with VW at the precise moment the Japenese were massing their assault and the Arabs were cutting off the oil. Mix in the greedy labor unions and the nonsense spouted by the likes of Michael Moore and the unwillingness of state and local bodies to allow the Big Three some much needed tax breaks and you can fast forward to today where the Big Three no longer aren't such. GM's strategy is to build any new manufacturing facility as far away from Detroit in particular and Michigan in general as it can get, taking the jobs and the tax revenues with them. Liberals must dine on tax money so they eventually follow suit.
Keep your head down and cheat like hell on your taxes, for California is headed in the same direction. Michigan today is much more politically sensible than it formally was, albiet poorer, and I suspect California will be too one day.
If only you could make it snow 5 months out of the year you'd speed up the process. In the mean time you might want to try for a state resolution putting a bounty on democrats.

Putz, that's the rub--its damn nice to live here--just have to put up with a lot of social crap. BTW, Southern CA, such as Orange and San Diego counties are known to be pretty conservative.

I'm going from memory here, so probably not accurate on the numbers, but close. I read in the paper the other day that the budget was shored up before the election by "selling" the states future "share" of the tobacco "settlement", worth around $12 billion, for a one time payment of around $4 billion. Now, the state relies even more heavily on tobacco taxes, and it is in the states best interest if people continue to smoke. Whenever I read about this group or that fighting over how to spend the ill gotten tobacco "settlement" money, it seems like a bunch of crooks in an alley fighting over a freshly stolen wallet. I guess if someone steals from you at gunpoint, but lets you live after you give up your money, you could call that a settlement.

I am currently shopping for a new state of residence. I have lived in CA damn near my whole life, but it is no longer that place. I am in orange county which is pretty conservative politically, but the state as a whole is not. I was thinking of going to IL, got family and friends there, but they are doing the same crap in that state now too. Seems like any state with a massive urban center has gone socialist.

$1,000 fee?

Does anyone have a bill number for this issue? I haven't heard about this before. Something smells.

All,

Please don't move to Washington state...it's full, and it rains every day.

Rich

$1,000 FEE

Hey Rich, with Patty "Osama mama" Murray and "Baghdad" Jim Mc Dermott, not much danger of that happening.
