if I remember correctly all evan's plate claims...
-is he has a real 427:3DSMILE: pk |
I now have two tags (aka personalized license plates).
One reads: TZR (Pronounced TEASER) :D The Other: REEL TZR (Which is the name of my boat) :D The BIG question is which one to put on the Cobra  The TZR tag is on the car now; but if Evan can be "The REAL 1" I sort of think I could be "The REEL TZR"   TL :MECOOL: |
Pk: Its all how you wish to interpret it. I see a REAL 427 Cobra powered by of the vaunted 427SO. When I say REAL 427 I of course am refering to the car and motor.
;) I'll interpret my way. Others are free to see it differently. In the end, my way is of course the factually correct way. ;) BTW: I may be heading up to HRE next weekend. I'll let you and Ron know. Chaplin/Mike also expressed interest in a ride up. |

OK, here is the answer to the questions I asked Ned Scudder, the SAAC Registrar. I'm sure this will clear up everything!
Jim: "You're essentially on target as far as documentation goes - scant information exists regarding what engine went into what car. We assume the comp and SC cars got true 427 engines, as that is what Shelby American stated they were using and that is what owners found to be in their cars. For some later cars, we have paperwork that specifically mentions "428 engine" or "427, 1-4V engine" or things along those lines. We also have copies of the Shelby American staff meeting minutes from 1965, and can chart therefrom the discussions regarding testing out 428's as "alternative, lower-cost" options as well as things such as the creation of the sunburst wheel, etc. From all the pieces of the puzzle, you get a pretty clear picture once everything is assembled, and that's what we have tried to do in order to reach the conclusions we have. But we're always open to new evidence. Factory 427 sidepipes did come in white as well as black. You see a lot of chrome ones these days, but I don't think the factory ever sent one out the door equipped with them. At least nothing I can recall seeing suggests that."--- Ned Scudder |
Thank you very much Jim. That is the best answer we can hope to get. :)

I think.....
The best way to tell an original from a replica is......
I have been to lots of shows and from what I have seen, the owner of the original is rarely standing around the car or cares to talk about the car unless approached by someone who already knows it is the real thing. If you have to ask, they usually don't want to talk. The owner of the replica is on constant guard and is usually standing around telling the story about the car and why you can't tell the difference between his car and the real thing. |
