Lew,
I am not sure if a tire shop would have a way to do that without weakening the sidewalls. If they don't have a directional tread how about just turning the white letters on the inside when you mount them. I tried to take some white letters off the tires on my Comet and it looked really bad. I tried a wire brush on a drill and that isn't at all good. So I turned them around until I get a new set that I liked.
