Default 8.5 inch paper filter element

Does anyone know where I can get a paper filter element that fits in the original Cobra 8.5 inch air filter assembly?

I saw one at Carlisle on an ERA car, but the ERA guys had no idea where it came from.

Hi rsimoes,

K&N probably has one that is a direct fit. See their web site. E-mail'em your dimensions and they'll tell you which one to use.

Even if they don't, they can make one for you to your spec for a reasonable cost.

I just went through this exercise. The original air cleaner (Stelling & Hellings) isn't really 8 1/2" diameter, it's less. I used a K & N E2570 which fits perfectly diameter wise but is about 1/2" taller than the original. I believe this is the one that Enzo at Finish Line sells as an upgrade. Give them a call.

The problem is that I want to use a paper filter because:

1) I have heard from multiple reliable sources that those high volume air filters let in more air along with more dirt. . . no matter what they say.

2) It's very convinient to just change air filters instead of having to wash it out, wait for it to dry overnight and the reoiling it. . .

3) I changed my 88 Mustang GT's air filter (years ago) to K&N and noticed absolutely no difference. . . .

Someone out there has to have this answer. . . .

Unhappy

I'm looking for the same thing,I went to Autozone last week and tried every fram & Stp filter they had in stock. The only one that fit was way to tall,I had the couter guy for filter book that had sizes in it ,but the only one that had sizes was K&N. I'm looking because I think the paper ones would look better than the green filter that comes with the repro. air cleaner, and they would look more original probably.I think I'll go to local small auto parts store as they have more cataloges than the big guys do and hope for the best.

But the good news is that ERA had a car with the paper filter that fit properly, so I know someone makes it. . .

I sent them an email, we'll see if they answer. . . .

WIX filters has a good catalogue. What are the dimensions you are looking for? Maybe I can help...

The exact measurements are 8.25 X 1.75 (inches, outside diameter)

Thanks!

Wix has a filter # 46041 that is 1.75" tall, but 9.312" major O.D. , with a 7.5" I.D. (Delco cross reference is # A 824 C ) Also, # 46023 that is 1.795" tall, but 8.5" major O.D. , with a 6.125 I.D. (Delco cross reference is # A 1158 C ). These are both round air filters, Plastisol top and bottom, woven screen inner body, perforated metal outer body, with a pleated paper media. In the back of all the filter catalogs are size listings. Hope this helps!

I think the 8.5" will be a little on the large size . The best I could find was a Car Quest #88094, it's a little small ,maybe 1/8" bigger would be perfect but couldn't find one anywhere. This one looks real nice as it's black top & bottom, with wire mesh on outside. They sell for $10.00 and change, a lot cheaper than K&N.

Thumbs up Filter element

I found an AC element that was a close fit but slightly taller at 2.5 inches. The number is a little distorted on the filter but it looks like A785C or A795C. About $5 at your local Walmart.

Default ISSUE RESOLVED!!

I got it! I found the air filter that fits almost perfectly! It is the NAPA one:

NAPA 6094
WIX 46094 (they make it for NAPA)
Fram CA140
Purolator A12283
AC A629C

I have the NAPA one, though they should all be the same size, I don't know if they vary a bit.

The NAPA 6094 measures: (inches)
8 & 1/16 diameter and 2 & 1/16 high.

The Stelling & Hellings Air Cleaner housing is actually not 8.5 inches in diameter, it is 8 & 1/4 and the foam element in there is 1 & 3/4 inches tall.

However, it may be too tall in some applications. If so, you may have to use the K&N that is about the same height as the OEM foam:

The K&N E-2570 is:
8 and 3/16 inches diameter
1 and 7/8 inches tall
