Default wheels and tires

on my car i definately want to go with 17" wheels, and definately want to put the widest wheel and tire on my car...the wheel i'm chooseing is the "fury" by boyd coddington...the guy over there told me that they can build the wheel exactly the way i want it to perfection.......so my question is what are the exact measurements to tell him (offset and backspaceing).....b/c i want my wheels to be perfect.....any help would greatly help!

thanks
Jason

if you're certain that your car was built according to shell valley's instruction using prescribed running gear and a narrowed rear axle according to their measurements, you should check with Shell Valley motors, tell them you want to run 315s or 335s and ask them if will fit, and if so what wheel width and backspacing. Otherwise, you're going to have to measure the distance from the surface of the rotor to the outer limit of the fender lip. Reccommend using a long level, place it vertically between the fender lip and the ground and then post that measurement here on this forum and then you'll start to get somewhere because there are probably many here that measured, then ordered the wheels and then said if I'd only adjusted the backspacing +/- 3/4 inches.

take your time getting the measurements. But you should use your existing wheels to spell check your measurements. For example, if you're running 8 inch wheels in the rear with 3 inch backspacing and running 255s and you like the way it looks, but you want to run 305s, you need to figure out where you have room inside the wheel well beteen the outer fender and the bulk head with the current setup, and see where the extra 50mm of tire width can logically go. You're also going to have to figure out the diameter (height) of the tire so that it's not going to rub the glass over bumps. Ideally the tire should look like it's being sucked into the fender lip just a little.
