Default 92 Octane gas back at $1.85!

92 Octane (Super, or Ethyl for the old guys!!) is back to $1.85 a gallon, where it was before the big price jumps. What are you people paying for gas now?

Edley,

They're still sticking it to us in San Francisco. As of yesterday, Chevron was selling 91 Octane at $2.05 . At some point, I wish gas prices were the same everywhere for each corporation. Yes, I know some places would have to pay more.....so what!

Turk,

How's the car running? I know what you mean about the high octane. Best smell around a race track!

$4.50 for 100 octane (Leaded or Unleaded) and $4.95 for 110 Leaded octane at Hallet Raceway outside of Tulsa. I buy mine in 15 gallon drums 100 octane Unleaded from a local speed shop for $2.99 a gallon.

Pump prices here in Tulsa are $1.32 for 87 octane, $1.41 for 89 octane and $1.59 for 94 octane.

Just had a new barrell of Union 76 /110 octane racing gas delivered yesterday and it is $4.25 a gallon. The 91 octane we can get at the pumps is still from $2.02 to $2.08 here at Redding. Why can you guys get 93 octane and all we can get is 91 which is most likely closer to 87 ?

Cool 92 octane???

Edley,

Where did you find 92 octane in Ca??? Other than race gas, the best I can find is 91 octane... Back east, the standard is 93 octane... Probably will see you @ the Shelby bash on Sat...

Red face I remember when, not too long ago...

It was $0.32 a gallon

Oh, and it was REAL 94 octane premium

This has been discussed but I'll post again, I talked to a petroleum chemist about the different octane's and he said the oil companies use toluene (117 octane) to raise 87 to 91, 93. For ten gal. he suggested a mix of 1.5 gal. toluene and 8.5 of 93 to get close to 100 octane. Adjust for your available gas.
NOTE: he said the ten gal. should not exceed 2 gal. toluene and 8 gal. of gas.

Want to mess with your friends, click on link and scroll to the bottom of the page for the "Fuel Fragrances".

https://www.worldwideracingfuels.com/prod_add.htm

We are doing some dyno testing on race bikes using the Propylene Oxide (on same page). I will let you know what the results are. Have heard some really good things about it. If it works well can use pump gas and the propylene and get away from the 10.00+ per gal gas I run now.

I paid $1.42 for 93 octane yesterday. Still think it is too high.

What do you guys have in the gas out west to make it so expensive - gold??

Regards,

Keith

Here in good ole central Louisiana, we have either 91 or 93 octane at the pumps, both sell for about the same, right now in the dollar fifty range....

BTW, when I go to the drag strip I usually stop by Auto Zone and buy a gallon of the generic laquer thinner and pour it in my gas tank and top it off with 93 octane gas, sure makes the guys at Auto Zone crazy.....

One gallon to 15 gallons of gas probably doesn't do that much, but the generic thinner is still pretty cheap around here.....

SpotterJoe: You are right! It is only 91 Octane. Used to be 92 a few years ago............

Edley,

I know what you're talking about. Just got back from filling up and the priced jumped to $1.02 a gallon... I'm just sick....
Gas is so cheap here...thank god for California. They cut the price here and tack on the extra to the Californians... Thank you, Thank you...

Question

Why do you think we have stopped mowing out lawns out here. I can't afford to fill up my lawn mower. We have had a high of just over $3 dollars a gallon for the great premium we have here. That never lasted very long though. This 91 octane crap you can use to put a fire out with.

Ron

Guy's the reason for 91 octane in California is CARB. The Company that came up with the CARB blend for 92 octane was I think Unocal, they have the patent for 92 octane, if the other oil companies followed their formula the would have to pay them a "royalty" for every gallon made, so they got together and made 91 octane CARB gas and avoid the royalty, sucks for us!!!
