Turk-Tell us how the shake down is going!

Turk,

We haven't heard much from you since you picked up your engine. How do you like it?

Clois

Turk 06-06-2003 07:35 AM

Clois,
You haven't heard much for the same reasons my family hasn't seen much of me.

I am busy driving.

I have ABSOLUTELY no problems with the engine. George did a masterful job, again!
Put it in, and go. I did complicate my life a little by reversing the leads on the coil, and also connecting another set of wires from the harness to the coil as well as the pair from MSD that is clearly marked -NO OTHER WIRES-.

Once my own errors were corrected, it was like starting the family car and going.

Before the alignment, I had serious misgivings about what kind a car I was driving. Didn't realize alignment could make that much difference.

Currently only issue I have is with the very noisy brake pads from the Girlings.

Otherwise the car is running like a champ. Very impressed with the 3:54 rear end, and the TKOII and the engine combination

3rd. gear and the 4th. seem to be the business end of this particular set up.Especially the 3rd.

Thanks for asking.

Turk,
My Dad met you at a GM Shifter Cart deal at Sear's Point earlier this week. He is always asking why I would want a Cobra. After seeing your car he now understands!

Small world!

Chaplin 06-06-2003 12:20 PM

Turk-
How's first gear? I bought the TKO II and have ordered the 3.31- was thinking about the 3.54 but figured first gear would be totally useless with the 3.54. How quickly do you run out of first gear? Also, what rpm are you turning at 65-70 in 5th? I still have time to change to a 3.54 **)

Thanks,
Mike

ps
Love the pics in your gallery.

Allow me..

First gear, or what I prefer to call the Chiropracter Special in 4148 is a bit low. Excellent for pulling tree stumps and very large weeds other Cobras will leave behind. It lasts about 2.5 seconds on a hard acceleration, if you are shifting at or below 6,000 this won't quite get you to 60 mph.. This is either really fast or really slow depending on your goal.. It is amazingly fast but it would put a damper on 0-60 times enless the driver decides redline is in fact 7,200. I am sure in time this may be the case. If it is this car will do 0-60 in 3 flat. 100 mph was less than 10 seconds. Wheeeee...

It does have the theraputic side effect of being able to do spinal adjustments. I had the privledge of being with Turk with 400 miles on the odometer last Saturday (May 31) I haven't been right since.. Seriously. We left first gear so hard when we hit second I was pushed back so hard my back "cracked" from about just under my shoulder blades to the middle of my neck. It felt awesome at the time. I haven't been able to turn my head to the right very well ever since.

The car is amazing. 100 mph at about 2500 rpm.. stable as can be.. a little like sitting on a very expensive couch at 100... I have no doubt this car would do 160 or 165 without much problem. It is perhaps a little soft even in it's present trim (for my taste) but a shock adjustment would fix that right up.

Thanks for the ride Turk. I might like to go again one day once the stiffness goes away.

Turk 06-08-2003 12:10 AM

Chaplin,
1st. is useless. You are in and out. That is if you really need to use it.
Second gear with a 3:54 is perfect. I may need a clutch replaced earlier than normal, but it is just right.

At 80 MPH, it is turning about 2900 RPM. I am very happy with the 5th gear with the 3:54 rear. I don't think I would like it as much with the 3:31.
I can go up hill in 5th, and accelarate easily without shifting down. I am not sure I could do that with 3:31. I also don't know that 3:31 would render the 1st. gear that much more usable.

HIQ
Your father is in California, and you are in Castle Rock? AF Academy?

Nice man, he now is in favor of you getting a Cobra.

SCOBRAC
Mike, thanks for the colorful account of your E-Ticket ride.
It sounds like you have laid it out rather plainly for the lawyers. Do I smell a law suit coming?

I checked with my home owners, you are NOT covered, unless you come back and pretend to be doing some work in my garage.

I am sure we can find something to do...

Thanks for the very complimentary account of your ride in the car. I couldn't be happier. It is really dialed in just right.

You are welcome to come back for seconds..

Turk,

Who makes your lift? Would you give it a thrmbs up? I don't have the overhead clearance for a 'real' lift, and one like yours looks like it would be ideal.

- Jim -

PS - Outstanding car!!!

casaleenie 06-08-2003 06:10 AM

Turk,

Whatsa matter, couldn't afford paint????:D

Ron61 06-08-2003 06:30 AM

Jim'

From the pictures Turk's lift looks almost like the Kwick Lift that I have. Not sure though as I couldn't see the ends. I am going to try to get down soon to see that car. Maybe I can have my back thrown out of place and then I can afford one. :D

Turk,

The car looks just great and I am really happy that you have had so few minor things show up. What is next, a world land speed record at China Lake ?

Ron

:D :) ;)

Turk 06-08-2003 08:56 AM

Jim,
Yes, It is Kwik Lift. It is great! Here is their website.
http://www.kwiklift.com/
You lay on your back on a creeper amd everything is in an arm's length.
Oil changes, tire changes, are so easy. It was a great help to have it here for the assembly as well.

casaleenie
Paint? What paint? You are pretty close to being accurate. I have enough money left for primer. That's all. So I figured I am better of raw than half painted.

TURK

Where is China Lake?

casaleenie 06-08-2003 09:47 AM

Ron61 06-08-2003 09:59 AM

Turk,

China Lake in North East of Los Angles and at coordinates Q-14 on the Calif. road map. I think Art Arfons once made some runs there and the last I heard they are still using it for test runs but of that I am not sure.

Al,

If you are all going to rattle can Turk's car at least try and get as many colors as you can. And don't forget the stripe has to go from back to front and not front to back.

Ron :D :) :3DSMILE:
