One side done!
21 hours so far. The work isn't bad, but the thinkin' really hurts my head! I hope I'm faster on the other side. At least these are all close in length. They vary by 1 3/4". The old set varied by 5 1/2".

Great job!
But, I assume you don't have a flange that bolts up to your heads so you can get the headers off for plating or powder coating.
How are you with side pipes?

Thanks, the header flanges have all been cut individually so I can fit them around the chassis during installation. Tonight I'll make the tabs to hold the header tubes in the collector muffler, the piece to connect the collector muffler to the sidepipes, and weld in a fitting for the pan evac line.

Colin,
Nice work! It took me a month to make mine. My engine sits much farther back. I used 1 5/8" tubing. They had to wrap all the way around the footboxes and miss the motor mounts. Then, I remembered to make room for the spark plugs. I know that headache!

Looks sweet!
I had to do that under the car, you are lucky to have a removeable front clip!
Should be way better than your old headers. It took me 3 days to build my headers, these things take time!

This may be a dumb question, but...
I was wondering what the reason for not setting it up so the collector was in line with the side pipes. I notice from the picture that the engine is quite forward and the front tires are very narrow. Is this mostly a drag car and the intention is to run it without the side pipes at the track? Just curious.

Thanks Paul, I've made a few of those mistakes myself. Once I spent all night installing a new electric fan in my Cobra, then wrecked it by plugging it in to 110 volt power to see if it worked. After 10 seconds of smoke and VERY high RPM it quit. I then decided i was too tired and better go to bed. One last sip of "coffee" was actually paint thinner!!!
Hi Perry, I remember meeting you in your garage, you were actually under the car building those headers that day. I now have a better appreciation for what you did. I know I have it easy with a removable front clip.
Hi Tinker, Yes it's a street car that I take drag racing when I can. I hope to meet the 95 db noise rule for "Fastest street car" competitions with just the collector mufflers. The sidepipes will be added if needed at the track and when on the street. I have two sets of sidepipes. Both are 5" outside diameter but one set is 4" inside and one set is 3".

Colin,
That is a work of art! Don't forget to post the other side when you are done. I love seeing things like that on the forum.
Good luck, Steve

Colin,
I probably owe you an appology for the day you stopped by, I was under the car for 2 days and my broken L2 was aching, no excuse, but I was pretty fried then. Your tig welding looks first rate, wish I could weld like that. Can't wait to hear how your Big motor does!
Perry.

Hey Tinker, I just noticed your question. My main reasons for not lining the collector mufflers up with the sidepipes were tire clearance and a desire to minimize tight bends. It also kept the header tubes to a length I prefer.
Perry, you were most cordial that night, as were your lovely wife, the crazy Mr. Cavanaugh, and Wolf from Can-am.
Thanks Steve, where's the "smilie" for being embarrassed?
