...also a clever way to announce the new corporate name and website:
http://www.shelbyautos.com ( references to "Shelby American" have been purged from the site and replaced with Shelby Automobiles, Inc. to reflect the new entity) hmmm, ... wonder if SAAC will change their name.. "Shelby Automobiles Automobile Club" |
Why that's my beloved CSX8002 in that ad. Sweet, eh? :)

Also- 1963-1967= 4 years 1991-1993= 2years 1997- 2003 = 6 years = "over 40 years". Ok..... Kind of like the old Alpo commerial "in dog years".:) Also- slams "counterfeits", but kisses Ford. Guess he knows what side of his bread has the butter on it!:p |

CSX8002... Shelby Automobiles' slabside.
Handcrafted by master craftsman, Kris... Got a chance to see the 8000 series upclose... what a really nice car! |
I've never seen a more beautiful 4X4! Like It A Lot!
|
The high stance indeed looks like the original stance. Look at the old pics, you will often see shots of a "high rider". I assume the new 8000 series has coil overs and not buggy springs???
I always figured it was more difficult to lower the vehicle with the old transverse springs and that was primarily why they rode "high". What makes CSX8000 ride high and why? I guess it would give a softer ride, which for a "street" car is good. Ernie |

It's a roller; no drivetrain. Engine and tranny will settle down that front end... then ride-height is adjusted for rear... ...to normal looking dimensions. |
OH,,,,,well of course!
Ernie |
Special K:
Is the body aluminum? Who were the "master craftsmen" that made it? |
I never liked that car.
TURK Sorry Kris. As a matter of fact I hate slabsides. |
The photo Computerworks posted was indeed when it was in roller stage. The front and rear transverse leaf springs (obviousley) get re-arched to the correct height. 8002 was the first fiberglass street roadster we built. We have quite a bit of time and effort invested in that car, and we are all very proud of it. BTW, it was built at SAI in the pre Ginseng Forest days ;) .
Turk, It has a glovebox! What else do you want? **) |

p.s. I kinda like the leaf springs way up in the air like that.;) Help those of us in Waco compete with all the Ford F350's with the Rhino bars on front (which have been specially adjusted for maximum skull penetration)!:JEKYLHYDE |
Why does Shelby (and the folks at Shelby Automobiles...) have to put words like "authentic" in every thing they do?
Let me help you guys at Shelby automobiles (and Mr. Shelby himself...), WE KNOW IT IS A AUTHENTIC SHELBY COBRA! |
Bandit:
Gee. That's easy! Shelby will stop using "authentic" when Superformance, F5, Lone Star, and the others start using "fake." Doh! |
Mr. Smith:
Factory Five, Superformance and others have never said that they are "real" Shelby Cobra's. I guess Porshe and other manufacturers should start saying "authentic" Porshe's in their adds because there are "replica's" of them also. |
Ron, Kris,
What's the color. Looks Orange in the ad photo and red it the actual pic? :JEKYLHYDE |
I don't like them for a reason. They look too much like an MGA.
Now, what is weird is ...I like MGA's. They seem to lack that macho menacing stance that I have accepted as, a Cobra -Must -Have. I find them a little too refined, and "feminine" if you will. Just an expression of a personal preference. Those who need to explore their feminine sides, should be my guest. What do you put in those things to make them run well? CHANELL No.5? TURK |
Mr. 1:
Au contraire. The specific reason I mention Lone Star is that they quite specifically claimed years ago in their advertisements that their kit was a "Shelby" upon completion. Others may use "427" and other monikers, but we all know what they're trying to convey. Shelby Cobra. Mr. Beck, his replicas, and therefore why Porsche doesn't use "authentic" in their copy are a subject upon which I really cannot comment. Oops, Porsche doesn't make a repro of their 550 Spyder. Gee, do you really think that the buyer of a Boxster truly thinks it's a replica of a 911? That they need to see "authentic" in the ads? We all know they aspire to a real Porsche. A 911. Cayene (sp?) need not apply. As for the others, you can mask their intent anyway you want, but the bottom line is they are, as Evan has so eloquently defended, sucking at the hind tit of what Shelby created. To deny that is folly, since any one of the companies could have designed their own car, but they chose to copy the Shelby Cobra. Notice, not one of them chose, to my knowledge, to clone and market replicas of the AC Ace or Bristol, let alone the other myriad autos (Seatta, Ferrari Barchetta, Cunningham, etc.) of that era that shared that similar basic roadster design. Of course, there's that abomination of the Austin Healy, but that's a subject for another forum. That Shelby chooses to use "authentic" should only offend poseurs. It's his right. It's his creation. The bottom line is that Shelby is the only authentic Cobra. There are some terrific clones out there, but the sellers and buyers must accept them, represent them, and admit them for what they are. |
