Superformance Cobra or Exotic

I have been looking at Superformance Cobra's. For what it is going to cost me to purchase this vehicle, I could buy an exotic.
Overall I like Idea of owning a Cobra over an exotic. My biggest
problem with the Cobra is the fact of people asking me If it's
real or fake, I really don't want to deal with that. Can you give
me some more insight into this matter.

Buy the one that Taters wants. 'Nuff said.:D

SPF vs. Exotic

Taters:

I guess you have to first define what you mean by exotic. If indeed you mean an original Cobra the comparisson ends right there. An SPF is a unique vehicle in that it was designed and manufactured to be driven daily and enjoyed by most of us consumers. An original (exotic if you want to call it that) was designed to be a racing machine or as some PEOPLE call them, wild animals, would cost upwards of $200,000 as a low and wild guess, a Superformance, however, a nicely appointed car and 351w engine would run in the hi $50's to low $60's. Check their website for more info. I can tell you right off SPF is not an exotic but rather a uniquely well designed and professionally manufactured vehicle. You will not go wrong here.

Just say its real......90 % of the people cant tell the diff. anyway. And yes it is a real car. And if they have to ask they dont much about cobras anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

snake farmer 06-29-2003 02:36 PM

Here's the line you use: Is this real? "no its a mirage"

anchor2 06-29-2003 02:58 PM

I don't care if its a Cobra or an exotic...there are always going to be people who say or ask something stupid out of spite. Jealosy is an ugly thing! Get what you want.

captain 06-29-2003 05:16 PM

If you compare the $50,000 you spend on a Superformance to another $50,000 product, there is nothing that will; give you the same thrill.
If you are concerned about what some one else will say, consider all the thumbs up you will get with a Cobra. None from a Porsche, or a Corvette, or even a Ferrari 308.

JWheaton 06-29-2003 05:46 PM

If your asking that kind of question you don't want a CObra you want a 1985 Camaro with dice hanging from the mirror.

f4steri 06-29-2003 06:15 PM

When asked, "Is it real?", I respond, "You tell Me!" That generally shuts 'em up.!

Taters,
Don't get the SPF.

You're clearly not secure enough to deal with it. Get something that everyone else approves of and take your satisfaction and reason for existing there.

Come back in ten years when you've realized it's bull****. For now, you're not ready.

Taters 06-29-2003 07:08 PM

J. Wheaton,

I already have one of those!

Like Doug Axelrod mentioned, you're not ready for a Cobra if you're going to lose sleep over the "real vs. fake" debate. You will also have to deal with the engine, too. Lots of people will be asking you if it's a 427 side oiler. Will that bother you if you don't have one ???

You don't have to be thick-skinned to own a Cobra, but it helps.:3DSMILE:

Taters ~ I've always wanted an exotic of some type whether it be a Ferrari or a Lambo. Although the thought of having to take out a 2nd mortgage on my home if something goes terribly wrong with the car has always scared me off of them.

Buy the cobra........you'll be much happier.

Taters- it's quite obvious you haven't owned either. These guys will fill you in on the Cobra side. I can tell you however as a guy thats had a few exotics that they will ask you if it's a "kit car" also.
Followed by;
What is it ?
How fast will it go ?
Bet it gets bad gas mileage !
I got so tired of it all that I made up cards that I gave out at gas stations with the answers to those questions.
In answer to your original question though, a Cobra is about male violence. A exotic is about sophistication.
I personally like the Cobra crowd MUCH better. For me it's the people. And its no contest.

Cobrashoch,

Can you explain what you mean by male violence.

BlueRooster 06-30-2003 05:26 AM

Male Violence=10 sec race car going down a side street.

JWheaton 06-30-2003 07:33 AM

Tater,

Since you have the Camaro then try for something else. '72 Nova :D

By exotic I would imagine you refer to a Ferrarri, Lambo, low producation model.

I think you will find that the Cobra appeals to all people and not just one "crowd".

Is it real? If you are sitting in it, it must have some basis in reality. Original v real v replica v turnkey v ... you name it. Enjoythe car and those who have to believe it to be real can touch it.

decooney 06-30-2003 11:21 AM

Taters,

IMHO: who really cares if it's real or not? Think VALUE & FUN!

The only person that should make a difference to, is you. Most of us don't build or buy good replica Cobras to spend our time, money, and energy trying to impress others. I don't. :)

Buy it, try it, enjoy it, and just have fun until you sell it. An SPF is a good car, and a different experience in comparison to other exotics...

Look what happened to the Harley industry... now many people (former hard-core Harley riders) are building upgraded custom bikes with custom frames, different motors, front-ends, wheels, etc... They could care less now if it's a Harley or not. When someone asks me, I proudly say, NO - it's an ERA!

Good Luck.

REAL 1 06-30-2003 12:14 PM

What price range are you talking. What kind of exotic are your talking.

Can't think of any "REAL" exotics for around $40k.

In my book there are Cobras and then there is everything else. Nothing turns heads like a Cobra. Nothing. (Well Ok, maybe a select few of the others, but not many)

If it bugs you that much being asked if its a kit, just say no its a car.
