I think it's possible to put a throw out bearing in bacwards. I think that will change the distance enough to make the difference. See if yiou can look at a reference then see where yours is. Hersh:) |
The race of the throwout bearing was definately facing the fingers of the pressure plate.

My car has an internal slave, so I can't give you any travel info to compare. Hopefully some kind soul out there reading this could observe his fork's travel and chime in here so you would have a baseline of comparrison.:) :) :) Steven Howz aboudit guys? Brent's on the friggen ledge! |
Just so I can sleep at night, and just for sh!ts and giggles, why not bleed the basturd just to completely rule it out?
The buzzing could just be some strain associated with it not disengaging. BTW, I'm not catching this...when you start it in gear and release the pedal, does it go? |

As I recall you had an issue with putting the clutch disc on backwards, didn't you? How far did you go down that path in trying to make it work? Also, as was asked, what happens when you release the clutch with the trans in gear and the engine running? Pat |

Brent ,I have had similar difficulties with my clutch, we are running the same engine and both use an external slave.... I have to get EVERY bit of travel out of my linkage possible. are your mechanical components as tight as they can be ? , I only leave about 1./8 of an inch of free play between my t/o and PP by adjusting my fork actuator rod. Duane, they may have been bumped. Noticed the reverse linkage was moved into gear, but I pulled that lever to get it out of gear and then the shifter started working (essentialy locked out when that rod was not centered in neutral).
Pat, I did put that bass turd on backwords....How far did I go....Well, I jimmy'd with it for quite a while, tried to pull it in with the bolts, but didn't put too much pressure on it, as I figured it should just go if it was lined up. Assuming my take on "too much" pressure is not in line with what it would actually take to break something, what would I have broken? Karl, I don't know how much play there is at this point. I'll have to check. |

Did you check the bellhousing alignment? How about the length of the input shaft to make sure it can not bottom out on the back of the crank? |
Or the pilot bearing not set all the way in?

David, the engine builder checked and adjusted bellhousing alignment. Assuming that was done correctly. As for the lenght, I did not check it. Didn't even consider that it could be a problem.
Scott, the pilot bearing appeard to be in all the way...I recall it being flush with the flywheel mounting surface. As for good luck, I've had zero to this point, so.....Not counting on it now. |
By the way David, what would you suggest I do at this point?

I hate to say it but I would take the transmission out and look at everything in the bellhousing very closely. There has to be something obviously wrong to give you this much trouble.
You had this setup in the car before you had the motor reworked right? |
