Where is all the "good luck" going????
Most of you know the kind of Cobra luck I've had over the last couple years, so this *almost* makes me laugh....Ok, so I'm driving down the road at about 30mph on a main road here in the Olympia area and a stone, no a flippin BOULDER comes flying across 3 lanes at a high rate of speed and takes out my nice Griffin radiator. I have no idea where the damn thing came from, but it was about 4" by 3" and ended a nice weekend really quick.
I coasted into the parking lot to Sherries restaraunt, and go to call AAA. "Sir, it'll be about 2hrs". I'm thinking GRRREAT, I need to get into work tonight to help my team finish some things with very pressing deadlines......Geez. So now I'm at the restaraunt my wife and I visted last night, and we got the worst service ever. I rarely complain and I can't remember a time not tipping a waitress, but last night was the night. So happened that I was hungry today, and at the pay phone in their shop, sooooo I ordered. Actually service was good, and food was good (that's not supposed to be luck though so I don't count it as good luck). So I need to make a call to my wife after a couple hours of waiting, and someone was on the phone, so I walked across the big ass parking lot to make a call, where the phone ate my last quarters....Back to the restaraunt where I got some change and made a call to my wife. She's home now, so she comes to hang out with me, and we wait for quite a while and then call the towing company....."Ohh....errrr....it'll be about 30 minutes..." Finally picked me up and we got it home. When does my good luck with the Cobra begin? :JEKYLHYDE  :JEKYLHYDE  :JEKYLHYDE  :JEKYLHYDE |
Oh, and I have the stone (found a nice place to park in my radiator shroud) and nice pictures that I'll upload later tonight.

Howdy Brent,
Sorry to hear bout the bad luck! The wife bought a new car bout 9 yrs ago, didnt have it 4 hrs and a rock busted out the windshield. It come off a city dump truck! I lived in Tacoma back in the late 80's and I always liked Sherri's, I wished we had them in AR. Hope you have better luck. Paul |
?
Brent, by some chance does your car have the dreaded 'Mark of Jamo' on it some place? If you can't see it just sniff around a little bit! Hopefully this is 'rock' bottom and you have no place to go but up.
Hang in there and don't forget to duck! |
neigbor, about 15 years ago, bought a new Porsche Turbo, pulled out of the dealer's lot, at the first stop light, some truck came round the corner, his trailer came off, smashed his 3 minute old car. No injuries.
What is that old saying...."if it wen't for bad luck, you would have no luck at all." hope you are on the road soon. |
Brent,
Au contraire, mes amis! Your luck is good. Your Cobra sacrificed its radiator to protect you. Would you rather it ducked and let it hit you? Seriously, as one who replaced four windshields, 2 headlamps and 6 fog lamps in a 2-3 year period, I feel your pain. Wait until you're 50, then you get to laugh about it. |

Wait until 50 you won't be able to remember it !! ;) Trust Me !! :o |
Is the rock OK?
|
You have it all wrong, Mr. Simpson. Mine is a mark of protection--like a gargoyle.
Send me something to sign, Brent...quickly by the way things sound.;) |
Here's a rock you can sign Jamo. :) Turk, the Rock survived the ordeal with just a few nicks.

Brent-
I guess there IS a bright side in that it didn't come in a little higher....on the other hand I see that it hit your oil cooler fitting hard enough to dent it - which means that you need to make sure that the oil cooler isn't cracked...... Good luck! Pat |
Remember.....luck only exists in the past tense.

My rock!
My rock! My rock!
About twenty years ago I lost my pet rock. Brent, Thanks so much for finding our long lost pet.   |
Brent,
Thats' terrible but it could have been much worse as you know. Start the What if's". Half a second slower off the last curve (would have missed the whole thing), Half a second faster.... Two or three weeks ago I installed a new System One oil filter. Got the thing installed and took off for a test drive. Stopped at the Quick Trip for some bottled water. As I am pulling out I notice I am smoking like a freight train only it is blue white smoke. I finally found a place to pull off and call my wife and ask her if she and our daughter could hook up my trailer and bring it to me, she thought she could. While I am sitting there watching oil drip from under my car I thought since I didnt hear any noise I would raise the hood and fire it up and see where the oil was coming from-there it was spitting out of my lower filter (the part I forgot to tighten). I immediately called my wife back and told her to forget the trailer and bring me a quart of oil and a couple crescent wrenches. We were both relieved but it sure made a mess and boy was that imbarrasing. Clois |
Darn rock thinks its a corvette,,,,or a vipor !!
|
That's not a rock, it is a low-flying meteor! It's probably worth a lot of money ... try listing it on Ebay!
:) |
That little thing?
TURK |
You really have had your share of bad luck. Maybe you could have an exorcism performed on your car...
Seriously, driving these things is always adventuresome. On a night drive a few years ago, I scooped up a large dove into the nose of my car. It mashed the fins of the Griffin radiator quite a bit, but no leaks. I straightened the fins as best I could, and within 30 days another large bird hit in the exact same place. Still no leaks but my radiator is looking a little ragged. On the way to DVSF1 I nearly struck a deer that bolted out of a woods along the road. Sorry about the luck you're having. Keep driving and fixing stuff. Enjoy the ride. |
Christine in Cobra Cover!
Brent,
Either that rock really like Corvettes and Vipers and was just really pi$$ed or your car has a life of its own. Send it off to live by itself, or some other unlucky guy, and buy yourself a brand new one. Turk will undoubtly have another cobra bought and ready to sell by the end of August. :p Jamie |
Maybe it's something in the water? The only time in my life my car has been hit by a rock like that was in,,,,,,,,Washington State!
I had driven from the east coast, on my way to Seattle (having my car shipped to Hawaii). ALONE on the freeway and BAM, from out of nowhere, a rock (or something) into my windshield. HUGE smash hit, never did figure out what the hell it was or WHERE it came from. I had the glass changed in Hawaii, which cost twice as much as the estimate I got in Washington. ,,,,,,,must be something in the water I tell you. LOL Ernie |
