Base price is 19.9K for an ERA?? Must be in stripped "kit" form. Certainly not a lot of options "roller"!

Mike: No question that you can build and ERA for less than you would have to spend on a SA CSX roller.
The SA CSX roller is just that, a finished roller from the factory. In fact I believe that the vast vast majority of CSX's today are completed rollers whether in glass or aluminum ala' SPF. Very few try to complete the CSX in component form due to the complexity of the build. My question goes to comparing apples to apples i.e., finished and painted roller from the factory ERA vs. SA CSX cost. As to future value. Nothing is for sure. Its all speculation and opinion. In actuality, my guess is that in 20 to 30 years when our generation begins to lose interest in driving cares like Cobras and is looking to drive something that will fit the grand kids the generation behind us, the ricers will have very little interest in muscle cars from the 60's. Bottom line. Buy what makes you happy not what you think will be an investment. There are much better investments available than these cars. |

Evan, I was trying to compare apples to apples. I got my car basically as a finsihed roller with all options except 6-pins, the ERA rear and bigger front brakes and, including the cost of the paint, it wasn't much more than the quoted cost of the new CAVs. And I would bet that once someone takes delivery of a CAV CSX and we see the final invoice total, we will see that comparably equipped CAV CSXs and ERAs will be very close in price. computerwerks... good point ---> the aluminum planter will be worth a pretty penny though. REAL1 mentions that the 'younger generation' etc.--->will need a back seat. I fear that you are correct but those that have interests such as vintage automobiles know and realize that passion can overcome logic, ie. the kids will sit on each others lap while Dad putts around the neighborhood. I've also been told that the companies with the most patents on alternative energy are the oil companies. If I had a coupla pennies to rub together I'd buy as much Shell as possible :D . While the alternative energy crowd (my fellow gen-X'ers) will say that gas powered fuel will be obsolete there is nothing and I mean nothing more visceral than smell and sound of big block american muscle loping along with an aggressive idle.
p.s. -->don't count on this one buying into the hybrid/hydrogen/eletric thing-a-ma-jiggy anytime soon..i like my hydro-carbons.:D |

Well, I paid 39,900
For my CAV Shelby Cobra. No options like top or stainless exhaust or 40 gal fuel cell. Painted F1 Red with no stripes.
In other words no additional options. But it comes with items such as the shifter/puller fan/ leather seats/Good Year tires and on and on. Here is a quote from my friend Bob Gaines a Gold card Shelby Judge. "It looks great and comes with a lot more stuff then the previous rollers like engine side cooling fan, shifter handle,boot and trim ring. The carpeted trunk looks really good." Bob G. But understand, I have three kids (always something going on there), assistant coach youth ice hockey part-time, have a son that plays travel hockey (major pain in the a$$, the travel that is), have a wife that I have to budget some time with and am usually working 6 days a week. :cool: |

Actually low miles holds true for MOST Cobras. Nothing special about the "real" owners there. SOME of us, like myself drive more. If I had a Shelby or a C.R., wouldn't make no difference, I'd drive it the same.

Actually, Mr. Bandit1, based on my time commitments and obligations elsewhere I would argue that I drive my Cobra alot based on the time available to me.

Driving time.........
I have been riding Harley Davidson motorcycles for 22 years now. for quite some time all I had in this world was my Bike and a destination. Sturgis for the Fiftieth Anniversary. Daytona 9 times. Raised He77 in every state on the east coast. The Old lady had a car. I had bikes. The road was my home. Fast forward to this summer and I think I snuck 1500 miles on my Bike. The moral to the story really is that as we get older our priorities change. I run my business 6 days a week. I have a 5 year old son who demands all my free time. I give it to him. of course some of it is spent in the GT 500 but the bottom line is that we are spending time together. I look at the New SAI product just the way they want me to. Yeah, it matters to me. and If I make the move I feel like I will be getting a 4 wheeled motorcycle. I will just have to make more time for it!

Wow! 3000 miles last weekend: That's a LOT! I don't think I've ever driven mine more than about 400-500 miles in a day... ;)
