Question Does a Kirkham have to have a toploader?

Is anybody ever put any other type tranny in a Kirkham.
I would think a nice modern six speed like what's in a Viper or a Cobra R would be nice. You could still make the shifter look the same and nobody would know unless they were real cobra nuts.

I went with the TKO instead of the toploader. We had to do a few modifications to the crossmember but it was well worth it.
I've got about 3000 mile on the car and wouldn't change a thing.
There's a photo of it on the second page in my gallery.

Are you gathering stuff together for a new project???

Did you check out your GT40's coverage in Kit Car mag?

What rear end ratio are you using w/ the TKO? That's the .63 OD right? And lastly what kind of rpms do see at about 60 Mph and 75? Great pictures of the crossmember mod in your gallery.

The rear gears are 3.54's and yes it's the .68 final drive TKO.
It's true that first gear is a little short but I spend WAY more time in fifth gear at highway speeds.
As far as rpm's go, it runs approx. 2000 rpm's at 70 mph which is were I wanted to be.

MikieC,
I'm putting the parts list together. Then maybe if it all comes together the way I hope, next spring I may be talking to the Aluminum Brothers. I talked to Tom at DVSF for a short time but he was real busy with someone else when I went back the second time so I figured I'd just bide my time and wait til I was a little closer to talkin' turkey.
I can't take that Ebay bidding crap so I'll take my chances with my impressionable charm and good looks...

Hersh

Allow me to suggest an approach. Drive up there in the GT and spend a Saturday with the family. Have a great drive and a great time!

Trust me on this...I made several trips there and it was worthwhile each time. Take both David and Tom to lunch when you talk...
