Is it just me or are the same people always involved in some sort of controversy, no matter which site it is on???

crillyiv 08-14-2003 11:34 PM

Maybe we should just call this the PC forum

Whats up guys ? Instead of bickering at each other, lets get on what the CC is all about.

NOT HEAD BUTTING EACH other.

Damn !

I don't get it at all. The throttle blipping was pretty inconsequential. But whats to brag about passing some guy stuck in a traffic lane? We all like his stories, and I feel like I know him very well because of them. Now everybody is jumping up to protect Hal, from what, his own thin skin? If one critical comment on a marginally appropriate act makes him want to pack up his keyboard and go home, maybe Hal should take a second look at where he's at.

Personal note to HAL: I think you need to take to Evan about threats of leaving, and take a pill or something to thicken up your skin some.

Don, the guy at VIR last year with the stupid Fez hat.

BlueRooster 08-15-2003 06:30 AM

I dont go to see BAD BOYZII and drive my car through a house. And I dont read a story on a forum and race my car afterwards. We are adults here. I dont really see anything wrong with the story. Its just a story. Any 40/50/60 year old guy that would think that everyone on a forum would start driving irresponsibly because of a post is...:odd:

Ron61 08-15-2003 06:30 AM

My own 2 cents worth,

I have read Hal's stories over the past year or so and enjoy them. At no time while reading that post did I even consider the rock, sand, twig, & etc stuff to be true. First off, it has rained back there almost daily for a long time. Second he was on a city street and not many city streets have that kind of debree in the main lanes. Third, just blipping the throttle isn't going to create a paint wrecking blast of anything unless it up where the exhaust can hit it and blow it. Fourth he has always embellished his stories which makes them far more interesting than some of the know it alls posts. I have a thick skin so you can yell at me all you want, but I think we lost the wrong person in this mess.

It is indeed unfortunate that bruised ego's
have resulted in the departure of two of
this forums most interesting and informative
contributors:

Bob Evans and Hal Copple.

Why would the two of you cut and run when
99% of this forum is sincerely engaged by your
entertaining and informative styles? You've
chosen to no longer be burdened by any
need to have a presence on CC. IMHO it is a
shamefully mutual loss. Gook Luck.

Doug Axelrod 08-15-2003 08:16 AM

Another Two Cents

First , I think we do owe each other a little benefit of the doubt in all things, particularly all things cobra. The people on this site are frequently hard-charging, self-made men (yes, mostly men) who ask for no quarter and give none. We also tend to be impulsive, maybe like seeing your first cobra and having it stick in you like an unanswered itch until....you MAKE it happen. The other day I read "life is so hard, how can we be anything but kind to each other." Just ask Team Jenny. So, senior or not, newbie or not, let's take note of the logs in our own eyes and let the motes fall where they may.

Second , I will miss Hal utterly here, but hope to get time with him via the Superformance Forum and in person at the occasional SPF shindig. He has taught me much about this car, this hobby, and just being, and I hope that he's not done with me yet.

Finally , I venture to say that this was the right choice for Hal. What was an uneeded poke in the eye of an amateur writer and hobbiest, turned out to be an opportunity for self-evaluation. Hal saw how much time he was spending gabbing rather than living. Certainly with his history of service, both military and medical, he could see how he was parsing out his life. So I say good on him and, as he comes back into balance, he may come back and visit in a temperate manner. And when he does so, let's limit the pebbles we spray on him..

OK, it was 6 cents. Sorry.

aumoore 08-15-2003 08:18 AM

As I read Hal's STORY he never broke the law (The Porsche Driver may have when he punched it at speed) and was just blasting his throttle as the Porsche driver was stuck in traffic. I would guess Bill S has blipped his throttle at one time or another. If not why does he advertise his Contemporary as "427 FE powered Contemporary Cobra, fun, fast, and all mine"?

Hal was having fun with a fellow performance car driver and maybe flexing his muscle. If the driver of the Porsche does not want to have debris from the road hitting his car he should have left it at the showroom and never put it on the street. Hal was just spicing up the story when he stated the pipes threw up debris. Yes, it was loud and yes the exhaust gas was sent in the way of the Porsche driver but no harm was done. Now if Hal had pulled up next to him at a light and challenged him to a race and they went off on an illegal high speed race thru public streets then Hal would deserve a little chastising. To chastise him for blipping his throttle at a guy who had punched it earlier is no harm no foul.

Bill get over it please. You are starting to make MEAT sound civil.

casaleenie 08-15-2003 08:40 AM

I usually don't take the time to read a long posting on this forum, UNLESS it has Hal's name on it... On more then one occasion Hal has brought a smile to my face.
I wish I had the talent to put down on paper the things Hal writes about... possibly a little embellished, but that's what makes for a good read...
Hal, if you feel the need to write and won't post on this forum, please feel free to e-mail me your story...
I'm eagerly awaiting the further adventures of Hal Copple, Road Warrior....:)

You have got to be kidding.

You REALLY don't believe that, do you? How would you feel if some Honda hero did the same to you and yours? The Turbo P driver was sitting at the stop light, unable to defend himself and this is somehow a VICTORY???? I think Hal should sell the "great stroker" and get himself a bad ass Honda Civic SI, 1.8 litres of barn storming fury, his tale of victory would then fit right into that forum.

I read Hal's story and had the same reaction Billy S. did, what a horses ass! Now I find out the ALL of the "great strokers" tales of high performance derring-do are B.S. and what's worse, I was the only one who believed the stories as written? Everybody else on this forum KNEW the stories were ALL whack-off fantasy's full of embellishment? I feel violated, I thought the "Great Strokers" brave tales of vehicular conquest were true and accurate, depicting the wholesale dominance of the automotive scene by the vaunted FPSB cobra replica's! I'm crushed! My delusions of Cobra superiority have been shot down in shame! Now Our Hero has decided to vamoose because he is questioned ONE TIME??? All it takes to remove one of the premier posters from this forum is to have another long standing member politely chastising some percieved misbehaviour?

Get a grip boyz, this place is getting flakier than the crust on my mama's apple pie.

Guys,
Is there more to this than what meets the eye?
Was there an orchestrated effort to run off Hal and use the opportunity of him telling of a story about an afternoon in his car to do so?

As a 930 Turbo Porsche owner I personally would have welcomed a little debris and dust blown my way so I could have the excuse to teach someone a lesson.

Yes, right there, on the street. Big deal.

I have done more than a few jack rabbit starts and stops in my car in my life. Whenever I get the urge to blip the throttle once in a while I don't necessarily head on out the nearest track and wait for the gates to open three days later.

It is there, then and right now.

Call me irresponsible also if you like, however I am not going anywhere! i won't do what Hal did. I won't take my car and my keyboard and say goodbye.

If you think ANY demonstration of HP on the street is wrong, and want to ***** about those who do, it is only fair that only those who have never owned a radar detector, or have gotten a speeding ticket do the rebuttals. Rest of you self righteous safety nerds sit this one out.

Believe it or not, there are many Cobra, Corvette, Porsche owners out there who DON'T want to go to a track. There are way too many irresponsible people there.

Sometimes the highway where the speed limit is 70, picking the tempo up from 30 to 60 MPH in a hurried fashion is all we want.

If the speed limit is 40, getting up to that speed rather briskly makes us feel good.

What are you going to do about it?

I wonder if any of you are as rabid abut drunk drivers, unsafe vehicles, unlicensed drivers?

Let one person mention an occasion of momentary lapse in judgment, we get people start the stoning process.
Thank God he was not driving a REAL Shelby, we could have killed two birds with one stone that way.

Lighten up or go visit places where your sort is the norm rather than the exception, make room for Hal so he can come back and tell us STORIES. he is more entertaining than you.
You are boring!
This is NOT traffic School, this is not Driver Ed, This is not a conference of Insurance Institute on safety....This is a COBRA FORUM full of people who bought, built and drive fast fricking cars and 99% don't know where Glenn is or don't care.

Get a life!

Dirt Cowboy

Let me clarify my post above. If your car gets driven on the road it will get hit by debris in the road. There are love bugs, Birds, dead animals, pieces of tires, rocks, sand, car parts etc in the road and my vehicles including my Cobra get hit every day by them. Some are thrown up from cars/trucks I am following, some are thrown into the sides of my vehicle from a car riding next to me and then there are mowers on the side of roads throwing all sorts of things into my car. I deal with it. I have never had a prolem with exhaust actually throwing any real damaging debris into the body of my vehicle. What little could be kicked up would either not get high enough to hit my vehicle or never go far enough to hit it.

You guys act like Hal picked up a handful of rocks and threw them at the Porsche or spun his tires in FRONT of the Porsche throwing rocks. If he had actually done someting like this then he deserves chastizing.

If you do not have any chips in the paint of your car you must not be driving on the same streets I am. Or you are just a waxer. In that case just drop a VW motor in and enjoy trailering your Cobra, Porsche, Viper etc to the car shows with the vinyl bra on the front of your tow vehicle. When you get there make sure you do not park anywhere there are birds, cats, dogs, little children with sticky fingers, adults with belt buckles, acid rain, sunshine, polution, Nucular plants, acts of war, acts of nature, or god forbid Hooters girls wanting to sit on the fenders for a photo opp.

There are three guaranteed things in life: death, taxes and chips in you $gazillion dollar paint job/new car.

Just drive the car and enjoy it.

I though of hal when I read this.......

Dsprint2000 08-15-2003 09:45 AM

Casaleenie nailed it....

There are not many threads that I'll read if they are long, but Hal's are (were) always an exception to the rule. Stuck behind a keyboard all day it was great to feel the wind in my hair and cruise some country back roads as me an Hal tickled the brakes and toggled the Accusump.

Thanks for taking that away from me.
