Rumor Mill Confirmed--Slabside
1 Attachment(s)
Fellow Car Nuts:
Kirkham Motorsports policy is to not discuss projects which are in the works as they invariably take way more time than you ever dream to finish. Nevertheless, as I have been asked SOOOOO many times... We have finished, and delivered, the first 289 Slabside. Yes, we are now currently producing the 289 Street car...AKA Slabside. I am sorry we don't have any pictures to post, as our friends from across the pond have laid dibs on the first 5 cars. (Somehow they even ursurped the first car from my wife). We delivered the first slabside and I myself have not even seen the finished car yet. (I have, of course, seen the tooling, dies, and the car in progress.) I can, however, post a picture of the new knock-offs. I hope Jamo doesn't see them or he will try to put them on his car. The knock-offs, incidently, are made in England by the original manufacturer. David:) :) :) |
David, did the originals have leaf springs? If so, will you offer a hybrid?
|
David, you should truly be proud of what you have done for the continuation of the "Cobra". There are many on this site who lust for a slabside and I am sure you will find continued success. Although I have not seen pics, I am sure it is a work of art.
Can I have a demo model? I'll be your best salesman, guaranteed! TC, never missed quota in a full year at work except in one bad economic year. |
SFCJ,
Originals were leaf spring cars. We will be offering the cars in leaf spring, hybrid, stainless, and powder coated steel. TC, demo model is slated for the wife...hybrid of course. Thanks for the kind words. David:) :) :) |

David Kirkham: Are you going to put original-type wire wheels on the car? And have you read my post on the Kirkham "Manufacturer's Page?"
|
I just want some doggone KK badges to put on my car!!! Can't you just make me some round middles from those knockoffs--or cut the circles out on the footpads or something????
We need to get your wife to help us "sell" a BRG/Tan slabside to Cheerleader. Has to be done. ;) |
The cars will be offered with wires and mags. I prefer the mags, but I know people also want the wires. The picture I posted was a knock-off for the wire rims.
Jamo, Our wives have the same tastes. She wants British Racing Green and a tan interior as well. I am not sure if we will make tan interiors though. Soon I hope to have these things on line in the USA. David:) :) :) |
David,
What is the price of a slab in boxes including the wire wheels? (Hybrid and leaf spring models) I have cut way back on the number of threads I read here, So I apologize if the price is old news. Steven :) :) PS, Will you be offering a slab nose as a door prize any time soon?:D |

Does that mean the knock-off is a knock off of a knock-off. Or maybe just a continuation series.  |
This is basically what we're talking about, right? Undercar exhaust and all, right?

That's the baby...I do prefer bare aluminum though...
David:D :D :D Seriously, what a beautiful car--that's why we did it. |
That red ss is beautiful. I may have to get out the sawzall and a hammer and build my own slabside.;)
|
Are you using the longer hood-latch handles, like a 427 car, or the smaller "toilet-seat covers" like the 289 cars?
|
I have a few more pictures (of the slab side -- and many others) in my Barrett-Jackson gallery if you'd like to see.
Go here: http://members15.clubphoto.com/ben64...ner-bc08.phtml Enjoy. Ben |
Edley,
On all of the original cars we have worked on, both 289 and 427, all of the hood latches are the same. I am not sure what the toilet seat you are referring to is. I have heard the very early 289 cars did have a different hood latch. Btsai, Muchas gracias for the other pics. The cars are beautiful. David:) :) :) |
Early 289's shared the same hood locking mechanism as the AC Ace and Aceca..
It was a recessed 90degree twist mechanism (same place as the later handle-type latch) with a square-drive...looked like the wrench end of a 1/2" drive socket. The car came with a T-handle tool to open and close the latches. The openings had a dust cover that pivoted out of the way to insert the tool...the dust cover is what Edley is referring to as the "toilet seat". (..we need to give Edley an ink blot test) :D |
Not that I could afford it in the "Immediate" future but I would love to see a race version of this car in my garage with extended flares. Any hope for my future?

I'm in love....and upset that I cannot afford the car.
*sigh* -steve in nj- |
btsai- were you able to find out exactly what color red that car was? Porsche Guardsman? It really is a beautiful car. Gonna get one someday. Will KK be building them for SAI too?
