Alloy 8.8, Eaton setting up experts out there?
I have rear ends all over my workshop bench, am fitting an Eaton Posi to my alloy 8.8, and would like to know torque settings etc, I have seen other settings for a cast non independent rear, they may not be applicable to the lighter alloy unit of between 1989-1996 vintage?
Also the Eaton has to have the side gears machined to fit and endcapsulate the C clips, this has become a saga as a big reputable rear end business did machining and machined the side gears to big in diameter and the clip brakes off on axle removal, also the depth was wrong and I have 0.003 clearance between end of axle and carrier center pin, a factory ford unit has about 0.046, I will go for 0.030 just so I can get axle in properly, and as the unit wears it will gain in clearance anyway.
Back to the story, I have managed to keep the clutch packs together (not hard to understand how they go) but I have mixed them side to side, and the packs vary by a few thousand of an inch but its hard to measure, so any information on all of the above would be appreciated!
Have read where 0.010-0.015 for clutch packs, so I assume thats measured by pushing from housing, thrust washer end, complete clutch pack/side gear into small spiders on center pin?
