Does anybody else dislike these stupid "GT-500E"'s as much as I do? Besides the fact that I personally think they are ugly as hell (what is that massive "goiter" on the hood supposed to be?), I also think that they are a waste of a perfectly good Mustang fastback (as if the ridiculous movie didn't waste enough already - 7 total if my research is correct).

And for $75K and up? C'mon! That's way too much scratch for a restomod Mustang. If you really wanted one of these gawdy things, you could build your own Eleanor replica for about $25K! I really hate the fact that Carroll Shelby has endorsed these cars, and that they are carrying a Shelby nameplate. What a joke.

Sorry for the rant. This is all my humble opinion, and I welcome any additional comments or opposing views. If you own one of these cars, I apologize for any hurt feelings you may have, and the fact that you got suckered into one of these cars in the first place. You should've built a Bullitt replica instead.

Russ, it's an abomination, from every aspect. It has no redeeming social value.

...but, hey...that's just my opinion.

WBofTN 08-22-2003 12:46 PM

Unique Motor Cars????
Our Unique - in Gadsen AL????
I thought CS was mad at the Cobra replica manufactures.
I agree Russ - the hood looks like condom w/ a week spot fixin
to rupture.

computerworks 08-22-2003 12:57 PM

..a different "Unique" than the one that makes Cobra replicas.

It is Unique Performance.(in Texas). They are building the cars and Sanderson Marketing is distributing them.

flipper35 08-22-2003 01:03 PM

I hope they run better than the car in the movie. Any V8 that can't run over 110 without nitrous is pathetic. The fact that it was considerably faster after hitting the nos button means it wasn't a gearing issue.

Chaplin 08-22-2003 01:07 PM

Putting aside the price (which is ridiculous), I actually like the look of the car very much. However, I do not believe that it has any business being in the registry. The idea that it is a "continuation" anything is even more ridiculous.

Durt 08-22-2003 01:07 PM

If this car sells for 160K, I have a Rolex 'continuation' I think I could unload. It's signed by mister Rolex himself - honest.

KeithBrown 08-22-2003 01:38 PM

$160K -Good Luck!

IF I were to buy a Shelby Mustang, why not get an original and save yourself a boatload of money. Personally, I like the '67 GT500 or '68 KR, possible even a convertible.

Closer to home, why not get a new ALum SHelby with a alum Shelby block or better yet a alum KMP with a SO and save a whole bunch.

Regards,

Keith

The "abominable Showman"

I would bet a "stack", that that "thing" is going to lose value faster than a "saterday night promise"

GO figure,,,,I have heard those rumors about them actually selling for 100K plus. It sure leaves me scratching my head.

I'm sure there are a number of folks who must scratch their head over some the prices WE pay for Cobras too. But then again, what do they know!

Like Cobras, the guys that own the real ones (Shelby Mustangs)don't worry about the guys who own the replicas or dare should I say "Continuation Ones". They know what they have and clearly appreciate knowing that these cars are just for enjoyment and not for investments. The continuation cars are welcomed at Club and auto related events because after all they were created in the spirit of the original concept. The inclusion of these cars in the Registry lends testament to their true heritage and rightful place in Shelby History. Yea that sounds good !!

Funny how the original "replication" that sold at Barrett jackson was back on the lot two weeks later. Funny how the car was still being sold with an open MSO.

Reading the ad I wondered:

351 bored to 408 - damn big pistons

Hand built - %/

Ten months to build - must not have been rust free after all **)

The list goes on and on.

One bid

BANDIT 1 08-22-2003 04:28 PM

I think the car would look "alright" with a different hood scoop and one that is functional.

Excaliber 08-22-2003 04:45 PM

WHOA!!! What do you mean with an "MSO"? Why aren't they using the ORIGINAL title that MUST have come with the original car before making the "mods"????

Surely these cars are NOT built totally from scratch? The car they started with MUST have had a "vin"?

Now I'm REALLY confused!

Ernie

Edley Rondinone 08-22-2003 06:05 PM

If i had that much money for a car, (but I dont!), I would add a few thousand more and buy an ORIGINAL 289 Cobra, and be a whole lot happier in the end!

svobud 08-22-2003 06:40 PM

It's a Mustang. .. and it has every goofy part the J.C. Whitney Catalog offers. The movie was stupid as all get out too. sheesh. Restro-mods .. cool. $160k for that crap? .. absolutely ridiculous. Even half that price is stupid.

I spent my entire childhood thinking Carroll Shelby was one of my Heros. Now every time I see his name in print or him in person .. I shake my head in disgust. What a total money grubin POS. He should have died years ago .. before he had the chance to eff up his reputation even worse.

mrmustang 08-22-2003 07:52 PM

Per a licensing agreement with Shelby, they each get their own unique serial number (usually something added to the back end like the originals)....By doing this, each car is then issued a new MSO...............
