Porche Snobs.........
I was out cruisin' yesterday and what should come up behind me but a 911 Carrera cabrio with wide rear tires and huge wing on it. So he pulls alongside and the 2 guys look the cobra over pretty good, I give them a Hi wave and they turn their noses up at me, just putt away.We come up to a light and I pull in behind them as my lane has a car already stopped. So I figure he's going to blast off the light ,so I load up the converter and jump on it when he goes.....well he chickened out after 50' when he heard the deep 460 roar closing in behind his head and took his foot off the gas...so now I crack the wheel to the right , miss his rear quarter by 1/2" ! as my heart say's Holy S$#T , go by him sideways as I let up. Don't think they will blip their sorry Porche at my cobra again.
So a friendly wave gets me a snub from these guys, so they aren't real car guys, just rich snobby ones. Perry.:3DSMILE: |

Hey Guys:
I've had a couple of Porsches in my life, besides my SPF I have a 944 right now. Two days ago I drove it (the 944) around Lime Rock for over an hour at speed. I can tell you from my own experience that Porsche owners are no different than other performance car owners. They love their cars and they love driving them. If I had to bet I would take a Carrera over almost any Cobra on a road course. They are fine cars. In a quarter mile I would probably go with the Snake. For pure driving fun the Cobra is the best! We Cobra owners should have an organization like the Porsche Club of America (PCA). These guys have more activities than you can shake a stick at. I've driven my 944 at speed on Watkins Glen, New Hampshire Speedway, Pocono, Lime Rock and Mont Tremblant. How many Cobra owners can say that? You're right though, some of them are snobs! Bob |
Perry;
I've seen both sides of that equation.... At one open track event there were 6 or 8 Porsches, most were less than 2 years old and very beautiful and fast, seems they always had a 30 something year old Ivy League looking guy driving them. At the drivers meeting each morning and at noon they stood together a distance from the "regular guys",they would not associate or talk to anyone that was not driving a Porsche.... Next open track, one 911,I ran with him three times,he was 2 seconds faster than me,but if he started behind me he could not pass me,I would run off and leave him on the two straights and after 2 or 3 turns he be back up to me but did not have enough to go around me,when I started behind him,he would run off and leave me a 1/4 lap by the end of the session..... After one long session behind me,(he started there on purpose)he came to talk to me and asked about my car, said he never say an old Fastback handle as well as mine, very nice down to earth guy.....He had been racing for a number of years and is a lot better driver than I am (I'm just getting into road racing),he told me I drove a good line thru all but three turns and if we went out on the track together and I drove the line he told me,he thought I could knock about 2 seconds off my lap times.... Well, I told him for two seconds he could have my next born, went out and followed his advice and lead and sure enough knocked two seconds off my lap times..... Not all these guys are snobs, some are real nice, you just have to look a little harder to find them.....There are snobs in every walk of life, they are a fact of life, something I can not do a dam thing about,so I just do not let them bother me,very simple....... Bob,
I agree the Carrera is a very fine car, that's why I waved at him. Just cause he has a great handling car doesn't mean he knows how to drive it, he either missed a shift or was just plain ignorant on what's going on around him. Hope you enjoy you 944. Perry. |
Oh $hit. I have a Targa (Same as a Carrera except with a retractable roof) and a CSX.
I'm a double snob!:D :3DSMILE:  |
Evan,
A Targa isn't a REAL Porsche. The only REAL 911 is a Coupe! :D ;) |
Man, I just can't win around here!
 :3DSMILE: |
   LMAO Say good night Gracie!

High Plains what were you trying to prove? I have owned 6 911's a 930 an EP Speedster and 944 turbo. I can't tell you how many times some nitwit thought we were going to race - what if you had piled into his ass end ? Grow up and stop giving the rest of us a bad name.
|
Agreed.
TC, happens to own both types of cars. It's just as bad as Harley snobs who won't wave when I ride my BMW 2 wheeler. Their minds fail to comprehend some people may own multiple brands. Oh well.... |
Evan,
What's this that I hear about the "Supreme Commander" denying your request to purchase Turk's 930 Turbo? Evan, Evan , Evan, must we teach you EVERYTHING?? |
Porche? I poured mine two years ago. I would say it is the nicest porche in town, much nicer than turks porche
|
Seriously,
I remember a weekend at Laguna Seca, my buddy was a driving instructor for BB at SPIR (it was the early 90's, before he fled Kalifornia) and was moonlighting with the Porsche Club. He was driving a Chevy Beretta GTz and while the only 930 in the group was driven by an older guy that just was interested in not killing himself, every 911, 968 928 and 944 turbo got stomped by this 20 something guy in a chebbie. I made matters worse by making a point of photographing the passes as we made them and the looks on those poor slobs in their $60,000 (at the time) cars getting passed by a guy in a family car. |
I sold my 2 Porsches to buy my Cobra. So far I enjoy the Cobra much much more. And when I'm out on the Harley I wave at all bikes, even Vespas and mopeds. Oh yea, in my neighborhood I've heard it said I'm an Elitist, not a snob.:D I'm just not quite sure what the difference is. Steve

Us Porsche drivers are NOT snobs. I once talked to a guy for two minutes who knew someone whose neighbor has a fiberglass Cobra.
If that ain't proof, I don't know what else I got to do. When I get on my Harley, that is a whole different story. I don't have the time to wave at every Tom Dick and Harry riding their Bimmers, Yamakas, Suzukis and Hondas. We have to draw the line somewhere. You want us to wave, turn the Bimmer in, get a leather jacket and a tatoo, then we'll talk. TURK |
Turk ,
are you sportin a little art work somewhere? |
I was thinking about a little dead butterfly, but haven't decided yet.
|
A full body tatoo picture of himself only taller. :D
|
LOL..................oh man ...
