Question Exhaust Gas in the drivers seat?

I came across this on my local car club web site forum. My headers used to "leak". On DECELLERATION you could smell the exhaust, even with the TOP DOWN and you would THINK plenty of ventilation! Make sure those gaskets are sealed tight you guys!

"Cars that run straight pipes, no cats, emit large amts of CO. The scary part about being exposed to significant amts of CO, on a first time or regular basis, is that it can lead to Parkinson's disease, (destruction of 75% or more of the substantia nigra structure of the basal ganglia - the dopamine producing cells responsible for movement and other basic functions). Be careful that you do not have an exhaust leak, and try to avoid getting stuck in bumper to bumper traffic."

Validity of the above statement?? I'm not taking any chances on wether it is or isn't, it just makes sense to keep the exhaust out!

Ernie,

This is most likely over kill but every time I drive my car for any length of time or hard after it has cooled down I have always checked the exhaust and header bolts and all others. And I have found some of them once in a while that had started to work loose just a little but by catching them quickly I have never had a problem. Of course with the cost of gas here I can't run any car long enough to create any exhaust fumes.
