dexter, thanks for clearing that up.

So WHY can't the SPF be registered in Calif? It WAS before, but now it cannot?

Ernie

NROTOXIN 09-06-2003 07:04 PM

If a Ford dealership bought an SPF, installed the motor, trans etc. then sold it to joe blow, joe blow would Not be able to reg it in the state of CA....This is considered a COMPLETED car not a SPCV.
There has to be separation from the purchaser (DEALER) of the roller to the engine installer (unless it is you as an individule). If they are one in the same NO GO!

curtis

By the way there are cars that were reg in CA at one time that can't now for
a number of reasons.

Kputz 09-07-2003 08:29 AM

Is it just me or is there anyone else that would be willing to pay a premium just to have a car that couldn't be registered in California? It's evidently a Republican car, you can't register them out there either. Maybe a Rumsfeld signature on the dash.......sigh. And the thing would actually be capable of turning right!!!

Why do you have screws in you? Could you explain what this means?

Kputz, the economics in old Cali is based on the "bottoms up" concept.Bend over and prepare to get greased!Just about anything is possible if your wallets fat.Believe it or not, most of the North state is very conservative as well as most rural counties, but we just don't have the numbers to outgun L.A. and the San Francisco vote. Many of us still believe the state should be split just above San Fran, but that is just a wistful pipe dream to contemplate as we look at the milky way in clear, jet black skies at night. If we could only figure out a way to cut off the water however, that would bring them to their knees!

Turk 09-07-2003 10:06 PM

Gary,
There are too many of them on their knees already.
Please choose your words more carefully friom now on.
It made me very nervous.
I hate this place!!

Yes,I guess those local euphemisms can be interpreted in so many ways!It reminds me of a joke one of my favorite(but somewhat "mentally challenged") patients told me the other day.As he was getting ready to leave the office,he extended his hand to press some flesh. He asked me if I was nervous, and I replied why?He replied,"Because you're shaking!"Does this apply to anything?I don't know, but it's late.Goodnight-Gary

Foothills: Keep a good thought, and while you wait, contemplate the "Big One" sawing off the wretched half and creating Nevada with beach front property. It might help if you people up there would start driving some wedges in the ground north of S.F.

I have no fear, because AH-nold is here to give our polititions an attitudinal adjustment with a barbell...oh wait,I guess that was Major Payne with his field knife.

Howdy,

Didn't the song go....you can check out anytime u like, but u can never leave. ??

Glad I live in Arkansas. Easy to title a kit car, no auto inspection. Just a 1 time deal for kit cars by state police to verify that they r not a stolen car/parts. Plus to tag a car only cost about $25.00 a year, plus insurance is cheap too.:3DSMILE:

Howdy Randy R,

Am I missing something here?

Everything was done 100% legal but he still can't get the car titled or tagged?

I guess I'm missing something?

I thought the purpose of doing things legal are so you can get the car tagged.

I guess I'm missing something here?

I'm glad I live in Arkansas. Here they just stab u in the chest not the back while kissin u.:3DSMILE:

I guess I'm missing something here? Or, maybe you are!**)

The owner purchased the vehicle legally from a dealer in California, however the dealer did not legally title the vehicle.

In the end, the owner got screwed - the dealer is no where to be found, so no original documents are available in order to process the vehicle thru SB100. Without going thru SB100, the title remains blocked in CA.

To remove the title block in CA will require that it meets 1999 Smog Requirements. To do that would destroy the vehicle, so the owner decided to sell the vehicle instead.

Make sense?

Excaliber 09-09-2003 07:13 PM

Not sure he could go through SB100 even if he DID have the "paper work" at this point. It appears to me the SB100 only applies to newly completed and never before titled vehicles. This would be a "re-title", don't think it can happen that way.

Darn sure aint going to make 1999 smog certification. Stick a fork in the SPF, it's done!

Ernie

NROTOXIN 09-09-2003 07:59 PM

Excaliber,
SB100 is used for INITIAL reg (NEW) SB1578 struck the word INITIAL from SB100 wording (for year after year regs) and this is what is being used for the cars coming in from other states........and to turn a ???? title to a :D :D :D :D one.

curtis

Randy Rosenberg 09-09-2003 09:38 PM

Curtis is correct. "Re-titling" is one of the main reasons why the 500 sequence numbers were completely allocated by June 12th this year, as compared to the fact that last year, by Dec 31, there were still SB100 sequence numbers unclaimed.

Having original documents *might* have saved this California owner from loosing (being forced to sell) his SPF.

Does this all make sense now? It is a real tragedy, since the original owner did absolutely nothing wrong, paid every penny that was asked of him, yet in the end, got screwed by the system.

This is why I got so pissed off ealier in this thread. People were jumping to conclusions without the facts.

stengun 09-10-2003 09:18 PM

Howdy,

Just ship to me in Arkansas. I can get 1 of the fat chicks at DMV to give me a title & tags for the cat w/out any problems. Just have to take her to lunch.
