Default insurance question..

I have a question as to insurance on our cobra's. Presently I have insurance with Continental Western Group.. The coverage is great and the rates very reasonable for what I have. I only have one little problem with the company. They have placed a 5000 mile driving limitation on me and I am have a very hard time staying under that.. In fact I have 4100 on it at this time and the weather is still fine. There is no way I'm going to stay under that limit.. My question is this I'm sure that many of you have insurance with no limits on how much you can drive your car. I'm in missouri and would like to find another company that will insure my cobra with no limits, can one of you recommend an Insurance co. for me. I hate to switch this soon but I will never be able to comply with the mileage limitation. Thanks for anything you can provide.

Gerry,
If your policy is for a collector/classic/antique car, consider yourself lucky to have 5000 miles as your limit. Many specialty auto insurance policies are 2500. You will likely be hard pressed to find a collector/classic policy that does not have mileage limitations. These policies are meant for occassional pleasure use of the car and don't allow high miles.

Your best bet is to find a standard auto policy for the car, just like you would do with an Accord or Camry. Except for one very, very important exception. Be sure that you have an agreed value on the car and that the insurance company understands exactly what kind of car it is they are insuring. That will protect you in the worst case scenario of a claim. If you have an agreed value, there will be no disputing how much you will get if the car is a total loss. Underwriters with State Farm, Nationwide, etc...don't deal with Cobras often, so be sure they understand exactly what it is. You will pay substantially more for a standard policy then the collector policy, but it will allow you unlimited use of the car with no unusual restrictions.

Best of luck.

Steve
