Most of the Superformance owners I saw were responding to the comments from day 1 (of the SIA/CAV Cobra being introduced...) about comments like: "demise of Superformance because of the CAV Cobra being in the same price range", "why would anyone buy a Superformance Cobra for a little less?", "Superformance running scared", "Superformance values are going down", etc...
Most of the comments I saw were a SPF owner (or non-owner) "answering" some of these questions and statements. It's "real" simple, don't ask a question like "why would anyone want to buy a SPF car over a CAV car for a little more?" if you don't like the answer someone will give. It was also "offensive" about the lack of respect for Mr. Price whom confirmed the purchase of AC and was called several times a "liar". I have never heard of Mr. Price doing anything that would make actions like the distrespect he received called for. |
hello bill, hal here. Since you have figured out the real motive behind the posts by us SPF drivers, and you have 8 posts thus far in this thread, and yet drive an FFR, and presently own neither an SPF nor a Shelby product, could you enlighten us as to your agenda? If we SPF drivers can be criticized for asking about Shelby products, how come you are so infatuated with our forum and statements?
We like our cars as much as any one else likes theirs, there is no "best replica" out there, neither yours nor mine, or any other. Our replicas are not any more perfect than others. If you want to assign this or that motive to the more than 1,500 SPF owners in the world, have at it. We are as eclectic as any large, proud group. |
Perhaps I am missing something but I cannot recall a single thread where an owner of any make has professed his to be the best replica.I generally read about someone who enjoys their car and likes to tell of its performance;they are proud of their choice(likely spent much time researching the pros and cons of that car)and there is nothing wrong with a little boasting.Unfortunatly, some have made it a habit to take these comments as an affront(low self esteem).Superperformance will be fine.The owners of their cars will be fine also.I suspect most bought their cars for the right reasons,great quality ,good performance and fun.I see no hidden cult in the SCOF and comments made on that forum are their business.If the new shelby cars adversly affect the resale of superperformance or any other replica then so be it,life is really short,my anxieties will hopefully be over much more important things(like whether to put a iron 427 or a shelby aluminum big block in my Kirkham;the best replica by the way) chuck

Chuck, my son Chris, graduated this spring from Clemson, is living and working in Greenville, he has bought a "flat" at the new Loft, the renovated mill on Mill Street. He loves Greenville, says it is the best place ever to be a single guy, loves downtown, and all the entertainment there. If you see a yellow Boxster whizzing around, "toss him some pipes", he loves Replicas, and will return a wave.

Now that I have answered your question, you want to poll your fellow SPF owners and have them all answer mine (as posted above, but I'll attach it again).... "Why would the owners of the SPF's (owners and some outspoken dealers) come over here (or anywhere else), and posturize about how much better their cars are than (insert any competition here). OK, beyond my curiosity why this thread is still in existance, allow me to weigh in as a "fellow SPF owner."
First of all, what does "come over here" mean? From where? This is the only Cobra forum I post on. Is there some sort of Dark Side where SPF miscreants loiter, conspiring to bring their SPF smack to this forum? Good grief, the only time I ever hear about my particular 'brand' is when I engage in contrary discussions about Saint Carroll. Then, inevitibly my position is skewed by what I drive - "well, obviously you own a Superformance, bla, bla, bla," when I've never used my car as a talking point, pro or con. There's a lot of thin skin in this clubhouse, and I don't see a particular pattern of it being confined to SPF owners. But I will admit this - it burns my biscuits to read comments about how my car won't be worth a plug nickel when Saint Carroll floods the market with his own SPF iteration. That sounds a lot like baiting to me, and begging a defensive reply. I never realized what I drove was such a big frigging deal until I waded into this shark tank. Sheesh. Durt |
SPF isn't in any way ,shape, or form the "definitive" Cobra replica, as a turn-key roller it does offer such things as, pre-painted in your color choice, leather interior, choice of wheels/tires. etc., a heater, a top(PTA), tonneau cover, etc. that some buyers find essential.
Other companies add these items as options to the total price of a turn-key they offer, if even available I wanted an ERA, but after comparing wait time and options I went with SPF--for less $$ for a comparative car IMO--it was what I could afford, it wasn't an investment, it was a FUN machine. I can't speak for other SPF owners, but I like my car, it isn't better than any other one out there, it is just a replica of what should be a proud American racing heirtage, a Shelby 427 SC. Who really cares when you roll down the street in a "Cobra" and turn heads, or encounter a crowd when you fill up the tank--huh? It's a "Cobra" why all the pissin' and moanin' about this --- Don' Mean Nothin'--know what I mean? |
Bill, perhaps you think SPF owners are some big, mindless body of folks with a common lore. That we are directed by strings from South Africa, sent out as missionaries or mercenaries, to do what we are told to do. That we are robots, or think, act, and speak as one.
But we are no different than any large group of FFR, or ERA, or any other group of owners. We chastize one-another, we disagree, we argue, we butt heads, we do what any group of 1500 or so mostly men do. We also boast, brag, and occasionally taunt. We have opinionated, forthright, outspoken owners too. You have seen some of our collective disagreement right on this very thread. So i hope you will believe me when i state that "the opinions expressed here are individual, ..." Mostly, i believe, we, like owners of other brands, come vigorously to the defense of our particular variety when our motives or our cars are called into question. I don't think i will post again on this thread, you are an American, you are free to think, feel, and say whatever you want. |

The answer is simple: 1.This forum is NOT segregated to any specific marque. 2. Several support this forum monetarily as well as informationally. 3. Some of the best friendships have developed via this forum. 4. Just because we enjoy a private forum does not mean we can't also enjoy this public forum. We abide by Brent's rules and regulations...most of the time. Since we own one marque doesn't mean we can't enjoy others, however if you didn't own a Bentley or a Rolls, I doubt they'd permit you access to their private forums either. 5. Most importantly: Why do we need a reason? |

How I post here is done per the etiquette here. How I post elsewhere is also done per the etiquette of that site. Funny how many people cannot differentiate between the two. I have never gone back and forth with anyone here, only to post on another forum about it, unless of course I knew the other person was already a member of that forum (except that one time long ago with Evan). Feel free to let me know what you do not comprehend. Guess it's a matter of being able to read between the lines. Some people get it, others never will. Finally, I could care less what is posted on another forum vs this one, I only made a personal observation, but one done so only after being pushed in to it by another owners posturing. The question has yet to be answered. Why would they do so. Why posturize on another site (such as this), then walk away from the discussion. I consider that nothing more than stiring the pot for ones own enjoyment. Bill S. |
