Setting records is a feather in your hat no doubt. But winning national events is more important. That where the real prestige and financial rewards are at.
How many people actually remember how many records Britt set.
I would venture to say not too many.
As for garnering the most points of any comp car in history, that is one I haven't heard before. Not saying it isn't true but that is a new one on me.
He may have won a national event. However he didn't achieve the status of Sizemore, or especially Steve Ambrose both of who won NHRA world titles.

It was 50 years ago, my memory is a little fuzzy on it. Oh. maybe because I was like 5 or 6 years old? But I love history and the "Pizza Man" certainly deserves a page in that book!

.......bummer he did it with a Chevy though, LOL

Hey, what were those rumors about the Pontiac OHC six being tested/run in an Indy car back in the day?

Of course he deserves a place in the history of racing and when his car goes into the Corvette museum I will be sure to stop by to see it.
I am not taking anything away from the Pizza Man. Just merely stating that the 300 inch Ford makes a better drag racing engine that the Chevy does.
The proof is in the cars that are out there today still running the Ford six. Still running and winning with them.

...........Wow, we're talking about who's "6-cyl" is better on a Cobra forum!! This is getting better than most "BB vs SB" threads I've read lately!
By the way, I had a 69 Z-28 w/ a DZ 302 engine from '79 thru '85 and I always dusted the 302 'Stangs. Had a buddy in HS with one and he really had to rev it up to get the thing going (heads weren't right for the street - in my opinion). By then, I was way ahead of him. They were both rated @ 290HP but I remember Hot Rod testing the Chevy 302 once on the dyno and it was almost 400HP STOCK. You could get the Chevy with duel 4's also, but I thought my single carb ran better (those duel 4 manifolds fetch a huge $ today though!). Had a '70 Chevelle w/ a LS-6 454 after that and a '69 L-89 427 Vette after the Chevelle. Never had a problem with Stangs (SB or BB's) in either of those cars either. .............Cobra's on the other hand, were the problem! Always owned Chevy's (besides owning a couple Ford trucks), but have always loved and respected the Cobra. Still a huge fan today! ......I just need to find one I like!!
