New Shelby CAV report. For those interested.

I spoke to Billy Andrews at HRE this week about the new glass CSX from SA. Very interesting.

Billy advised that he just spent significant time inspecting one of the first SA CSX's in and out throughly. He reports that the quality is superb with hand laid glass, Dana 44 rear, Spicer half shafts, chasis to original spec, leather, oil cooler, aluminum panels for engine bay etc. The car is fully correct and to original specs.

Price will be $39,900 for painted roller!

Knowing HRE's attention to detail and workmanship it appears that the new SA produced Cobra is in fact a high quality product.

hey Evan, what do you think about moving this post to the advertisements section to CC?

I know us SPF folks sometimes also put out press releases, which get wrapped around the axle in a page or so, so i suspect this one will too.

Do you get a commission or something? I do, when i post some complemtary advertisement about an SPF, Jimmy Price sends me another one of those big diamonds from the DeBeers company.

Ok, enough of the tweaking, the SA folks can certainly build nice cars.

All the best, Evan, really.

I thought the price had gone up to $42,500 as of the mid Sept.??? Can anyone confirm that?

427sharpe 10-02-2003 07:13 PM

I am looking forward to seeing one of the new 'glass CS cars. IF the quality is there to back up the claims, I will purchase one to replace my EM.

The November Kit Car Mag has an ad for the CAV Cobra still listing it at 39.9k.It would be nice if they could hold that price for a little longer until brochures are available and a few more of us can actually get to give the car the once(or twice!)over.

HAL it's not like an SPF is the new kid on the block. The "new" SA CAV is a hot topic and just about any information good or bad is "news" at this stage. Though I'll admit there is thin line between advertising and news at times.

It HAS crossed my mind to sell my replicas and move up to something "more period correct". Not sure WHAT that means,,,, I'm just thinking out loud.

I was told by my local SAI dealer that SAI had held the price until the end of Sept. 2003.

Evan,
You poor misguided plumber. You spoke with the only Shelby dealer that has placed new CSX's on ebay and now it's gospel?
If the "principles and owners" invested as much effort into making peace and promoting cars as they do spreading rumors and vitriol, the manufacturers would enjoy a beter bottom line, there would be more cobra family members and the attorneys wouldn't be laughing all the way to the bank.;)

Dan... just to keep the record straight:

Evan spoke with Billy Andrews, HRE Motorsports, who is the Shelby dealer in NY...out by me on Long Island.

Paul Andrews (no relation) is the Shelby dealer in NJ that put the CAV SA rollers on eBay..... not Billy.

Dan Semko 10-03-2003 06:27 AM

Thanks for the clarification Ron. It makes the plumber's post even more humorous!!;)

I just spoke to Bill at HRE and am ordering one at the $39,995.00 price. Not sure when he said they're going up. He was very impressed with the car.

As the thread stated "For those interested" If you are great. If your not skip it and go on. The fingers are much faster than the brain sometimes.

REAL1: Thanks for the update. It's nice to have some confirmation of what we all had anticipated: That Shelby/CAV would be producing a superb, high-quality Cobra in a timely manner.

Can you convince your buddy to click off a few digital pictures and post them? The natives are getting restless...

My god...does EVERY post have to become a ***** fight?????
Maybe we should get Midol stickers instead of Club Cobra!

Since I'm looking to order a car, I've been watching this thread pretty carefully. I wouldn't order a CSX unless I could check it out thoroughly, in person. I've been to HRE and they seem fine, but what else would they say except that the car is awesome? I thought I would go with SPF but I'll wait. With the competitive CSX price I expect to see a lot of them in the next few years. Won't that make them less of a novelty and take the mystique out of the Shelby name? Would they be worth more than the SPF cars?

Hal Copple 10-03-2003 08:42 PM

spending this much money on such a primative car really does warrant careful thought. I think it would be money well spent to narrow it down to the two or so replicas that interest you, and find a way to sit in , drive them, and if possible go to the dealer who would provide one or the other to you. In the big picture, half a thousand bucks to make the right choice on a $50K car would be money well spent.

DKing,
That request for photos were met sometime ago.
Here is the thread where you can see 7 or 8 photos...

Turk,
I saw some photos on page 13 of the thread you posted... I guess I missed them or something.

Do you or anyone know of any photos taken of the chassis and suspension - with the body off?
