Hal's Great Stroker pic at the LSR

well, they posted some pics of my car when Chris and I ran the measured mile at Maxton, NC, about 3 weeks ago. I did not notice when they took this one and another for their website, but i finally have a shot of my car to put here. The trunk, hood, and door are open, so it was at Tech, i guess.

Notice the broken up pavement, this is the surface upn which we went 148 mph, and the bikers were running 200 plus mph on.

Hey Hal, does your car have a soft top that fits over the roll bar?

I don't know why but I thought the great stroker was blue. I have always enjoyed your stories but now that I know it's red I will enjoy them even More!

Yup, got a really nice fabric soft top, from Dynamics, custom made for SPF in SA, Mercedes quality, lower by about three inches in height, but it does fit nicely over the full width rollbar, zip down window, three bars, velcro, really nice, handsome, and quite weathertite, too. It is slightly different than the fabric tops that SPF ships with their new Replicas.

The new Fabric top is gorgeous, low profile, dry, and cost me $750, with new bows. When i drive with the top up, side curtains out, rear window rolled up, it doesn't flap, very quiet, and not very drafty, the zip out rear window makes all the difference.

I have the race radial Hoosiers on the car in the picture, (i have a spare set of Trigo's) they are a much lower profile than my Goodyears, so that is why the tires look so small in the wheel arches. You can see all the sand and rocks in the picture, so you can imagine what it was like doing 148mph on that kind of surface. You can imagine what it was like for the bikers running 200+ mph!!

I finally had the chance to wash and vacuum out the sand and pine needles yest, the first opportunity since we ran about three weeks ago. I have a few trips this week, can't wait, the Upstate SC weather is just beautiful.

Not much easier because one must velcro the top to each of the three bows-time consuming but well worth the effort. As Hal said earlier' no wind flap, dryer, no struggling to get it over the roll bar. etc.

WHOA!!!! A zip down rear window on the soft top??? $750 price??? DANG! What a great top that is!

I didn't even ask DV if my soft top would have a zip down rear window because I assumed NOBODY made one for a replica.

I rarely had the back window zipped up on my Austin Healey. Fact it I mostly used the top to avoid sun burn, not water!

Ernie ~ the new top that I saw did in fact have the quarter side windows. Pretty slick looking top compared to the originals.

I like the idea of the rear zip-out windonw.......I'm sure this would cut down on the buffeting effect inside the cobra and would also keep the top on at speed.

You probably did not need the rear window zipped out on the Healy because it couldn't get up to speed.....LOL!!!!!

bill, scary is a better expression. Narrow, tree-lined, broken up road, fastest i ever went. Not like hot footing it on a broad open road at all. only about a lane and a half of usable concrete down the middle, that airstrip has been unused and non-maintained since 1945. But was fun to park on the old concrete revetments. I wish i could have seen the WWII bombers that parked there back when.

Where can one see pictures of this new soft top? Is it hot with it on? I would want it mostly for shade as opposed to rain. It gets a bit toasty driving around here with a big block. The wife also complains about messy hair. Thanks.

Shawn, I ran my Excal with the soft top up a LOT. Not hotter at all, much cooler in fact! You know the sun has NO mercy here!

Hopefully the new Classic Roadster will have a hard top and air conditioning, but I ALSO will have a soft top. I want it all.
