New Original Classic: Lotus Elise

Just within the past week I've found a new favorite for my list... The Lotus Elise. Has anyone else seen the write up on the US-Spec version that will be available the middle of next year? A true sports car, and truly outstanding. I am seriously considering trading in my Mustang Cobra for an Elise.

CAL,
IM PARTICAL TO THE ,66 GT350 (WONDER WHY), BUT THE GT40 GETS THE TOP VOTE FROM ME, FOLLOWED BY THE 300SL GULLWING ( YOUR WELCOME). AS FOR THE ELISE, ITS REAL SEXY.A CLOSE FRIEND HAS A ERO MODEL (RACE VERSION). IT NOT USA STREET LEAGAL...TRACK ONLY. HE WILL BE RUNNING IT THIS WEEKEND ALONG WITH MR.MASON, MYSELF AND AFEW OTHER CLUB COBRA GUYS AT THUNDERHILL. AFEW ZO6'S ALSO ARE RUNNING WITH THE BIG BLOCKS....THAT COULD ANSEWER A PREVIOUS QUESTION.

Chaparral 2C.

The Elise is a great looking car. My wife wants one after seeing a couple at Monterey.

Since we are choosing from all time frames, I'll have to say the Mclaren F1 production car. I don't think anything can touch it in looks or performance. Atleast not when it was introduced in the mid-late 90's.

It's at the Museum of Modern Art only because that's where it quit running again.....

The Gullwing (a little bias here) was a true original. The eye brows above the fenders and the doors are one of a kind styling. Nothing like before it and nothing after, either. A true stand alone.

I think the Camaro/GTO guys would probably be happy with the "pony car" designation. I want to have fun here but I think, in a strick sense, a Sports Car really needs to be a two seater if it is anything at all.

The E-Type is a remarkable design, but the '57 Ferrari Testa Rossa is number one in my book:

For body style, the Austin Healy 3000 or MGA for the classic sport car. The Porsche Spyder, ala James Dean, for the classic racer look.

E-Jag gets my vote too. Wonder why there aren't E-Jag kits out there.

Guys were putting Chevys in them way back when, but the Brits never built their cars for salty NorthEastern US roads, and the cars rusted to slag very quickly. The 3.8 - 4.2 liter chain driven 6 left a lot to be desired in the power department. The Pontiac OHC in-line 6 from '66 or therabouts proved to be a more reliable, higher winding engine than the E-Jag 6.

A fiberglass E-Jag, powered by anything contemporary would still be a show stopper amid a field of Cobras.

neither a classic, but if i could have two of the cars i have owned, it would by my first car, a '63 TR-4, and my first new car, my '69 Dodge Charger R/T. Learned about girls and drifting corners in the former, (where there are two willing people, there will be a way!!), and would love to re-live the trips to Spain, or all thru the Alps in the latter.

An absolute must mention for design originality. The Diablo and Murcielago (sp?) are arguably better looking, but this is their daddy...

No. 3 - a round of Heinekens (on Cal) if you name this car. Beautiful in the eye of the beholder from most angles - No question about its originality.

Most of you should be able to name this one (hint: a classic ricer)but its design may be derivative...from what though?

decooney 10-21-2003 07:06 PM

Hey...

Buzz,
...Here is another hint, its right on the back of the license plate!. And, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

decooney 10-21-2003 07:15 PM

My favorite.

For me, this is it.

To see it in person is breathtaking. Almost made it to Lemans.
