Default VA Registration - Help!

I just bought an ERA Cobra from a seller in CT. The CT title is for an '86. This has to do with the way CT titles a car, so I'm told. I want to title the car in VA as a '68, based upon the motor or whatever excuse I can use. Does anyone has specific experience with VA DMV in a like situation? Sure could use your help.

Thanks.

JCM

Wow, this could be a tough one. Registering will probably not be a problem but emmisions and inspection may get you if they do not allow the car to be exempt. Used to live in Va. and they have been real sticklers about inspection and emissions especially in Fairfax County. Hope you are not trying to title there. My SPF is register in Va. but I actually live in Wa. State (non resident rules apply). My bill of sale and title listed my vehicle make as a 2002 Superformance and model as a 1965 Replica. The lady at DMV asked what year did the car replicate and I answered "1965". That's what DMV used and they got no agrument from me. I guess that whopping sales tax of $1300.00 they collected at registration wasn't a contributing factor either. Anyhow if you can talk to DMV or email them, they could provide better answers, maybe even in English (yeah right)

JCM,

IT'S ABOUT A THREE BEER STORY BUT VERY DO-ABLE. IT'S A LOT EASIER TO EXPLAIN "IN PERSON".

WHY DON'T YOU BRING YOUR NEW BABY OUT TO OUR "GREASE-UP" BREAKFAST ON SATURDAY AND MEET ABOUT THIRTY OF THE CRAZIEST COBRA OWNERS IN THE COUNTRY; RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE "GASHOLES".

WE MEET AT THE VIENNA INN (IN VIENNA, VA) EVERY SATURDAY MORNING (EXCEPT "BLOOD DRIVE DAYS") AT 8:00 AM. YOU GET A WEEKS WORTH OF CHOLESTERAOL IN ONE SITTING.

CALL ME IF YOU NEED MORE INFO OR DIRECTIONS. JACK MOGUS - 703-777-7442 IN LEESBURG, VA.

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE. I BELIEVE YOU'LL FIND THAT AS MUCH FUN AS THE CARS ARE - THE COBRA PEOPLE ARE EVEN MORESO.

Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY.

BLACKJACK

Jack,

It's been a long time. Love to bring the car to the VI, but it is in Louisa County which is where I am on weekends. You may be familiar with the car, it is ERA #50, also known as the McFezmobile. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

Default Va inspections

JCM,

I live in Va Beach and my Everett-Morrison is titles as an 1987 Ford Convertible. The DMV said that I would be unable to change it, however when I approached an inspection station regarding the required state inspections they used the guidelines for the year of car it was replicating (1965) and called the state police to insure that it was legal to do that. the state police had no problems and specified that as long as the station could vouch for the replica being truly after a 1965 they could inspect it as such. I'm sure there may be other possibilities out there but this was my take on it.

Good Luck,

Chris

Recent changes in VA statutes may make the registration more difficult. Last year they removed the statement in the regs about the car being titled as the year it most closely resembles. My car got titled as a 1965 but they included on the title that it was built in 2003. I think the law is being more widely interpreted and it depends on which DMV you go to. If you get someone who was familiar with the old regs then you may be able to pull off getting it registered as a 65.

ONE THING IS A FACT IN VIRGINIA - - - -

IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE ANSWER YOU GET AT ONE DMV OFFICE - TRY THE NEXT ONE - AND THE NEXT ONE - IF NECESSARY.

I DON'T BELIEVE ANY TWO DMV OFFICES HANDLE ANYTHING (OTHER THAN THE ROUTINE STUFF) IN THE SAME MANNER. A LOT OF IT HAS TO DO WITH YOUR ATTITUDE ALSO. IF YOU HAVE ALL YOU DUCKS IN A ROW, KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TO ASK FOR, USE TERMONOLOGY THAT THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH AND MAKE IT AS EASY AS POSSIBLE FOR THEM (A NICE - CONFIDENT SMILE HELPS TOO) YOU CAN GENERALLY GET WHAT YOU WANT. IF YOU GO IN THERE UNSURE OF YOUR POSITION AND ASKING THEM QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO DO - AND HOW THEY THINK YOU SHOULD GO ABOUT IT - - - - YOU'RE SCREWED EVERY TIME.

REMEMBER, THEY ARE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES - - THEY CAN SMELL FEAR!!!

N559BR - - - WHAT SECTION AND NUMBER OF THE CODE HAS BEEN RECENTLY CHANGED? I'M, SORT OF, THE EX-OFFICIO SQUADRON LEGAL OFFICER UP HERE AND I'D LIKE TO ACCESS IT AND COPY IT INTO MY FILES. I TRY TO KEEP CLOSE TABS ON ALL THE CHANGES.

Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY.
